This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Illinois, +1 more state.
• Lead consulting projects focused on inventory costing, product costing, manufacturing cost analysis, and associated financial and operational processes.
• Evaluate client cost-accounting methodologies, systems, processes, controls, and data to uncover opportunities for enhancement.
• Deliver expertise in standard and actual costing, inventory valuation, bills of materials, manufacturing routings, costs, overhead, allocations, variances, inventory controls, ERP costing, and profitability reporting.
• Assess and enhance cost-accounting processes and ERP system configurations.
• Design and supervise analyses of manufacturing costs, purchasing activities, inventory, variances, product profitability, and both financial and operational data.
• Create methodologies for addressing complex costing scenarios.
• Document and evaluate client processes, controls, data flows, and workflows, and suggest improvements.
• Provide senior leadership for cost-accounting and financial-data aspects of domestic content consulting projects.
• Gather and analyze detailed information regarding product, cost, sourcing, supplier, purchasing, labor, routing, overhead, inventory, and manufacturing.
• Formulate methodologies for calculating domestic and non-domestic manufacturing costs or content.
• Establish repeatable processes, controls, and documentation to meet domestic content requirements.
• Collaborate with Baker Tilly professionals across tax, incentives, government contracting, engineering, supply chain, legal, and technology.
• Review analyses and documentation to ensure accuracy, consistency, and defensibility.
• Develop engagement strategies, work plans, staffing models, budgets, milestones, data requests, and deliverables.
• Oversee multiple concurrent engagements while ensuring quality, timeliness, and engagement economics.
• Act as a senior client contact and cultivate trusted relationships with finance, accounting, operations, procurement, supply chain, engineering, and executive leadership.
• Facilitate client interviews, collaborative sessions, data discussions, executive presentations, and findings meetings.
• Translate complex challenges into business implications and actionable recommendations.
• Review team analyses and deliverables for quality assurance.
• Provide coaching and technical support to team members.
• Identify opportunities for service expansion and develop new offerings.
• Engage in business development, proposals, presentations, and fee estimation processes.
• Build relationships within Baker Tilly to staff engagements with the right expertise.
• Contribute to thought leadership and market development initiatives.
• Travel as necessary to client locations and manufacturing sites.
• 4-year degree in a relevant field.
• 8 years of professional experience.
• Bachelor’s degree or higher in accounting or finance is preferred.
• Over 10 years of experience in accounting or finance roles within manufacturing companies or consulting firms focusing on inventory cost projects is preferred.
• Certified Public Accountant (CPA) and/or Certified Management Accountant (CMA) certification is preferred.
• In-depth knowledge of manufacturing cost-accounting principles, including standard and actual costing, inventory valuation, bills of materials, routings, material and labor costs, manufacturing overhead, allocations, and manufacturing variances.
• Proven experience in obtaining, validating, and analyzing detailed cost and operational data from manufacturing facilities, suppliers, or other external sources.
• Proven track record in designing, implementing, or enhancing cost-accounting processes and methodologies in manufacturing settings.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving capabilities.
• Experience in developing pro forma financial models that incorporate income statements and cash flow projections.
• Entrepreneurial mindset to recognize client needs and effectively build, plan, and manage services.
• Familiarity with building processes within SAP or Oracle Finance and Inventory Management Platforms.
• Prior experience with domestic content, manufacturing incentives, government contracting, tax incentives, country-of-origin analysis, or related product-level cost and sourcing requirements is advantageous but not mandatory.
