Senior Manager, Finance and Strategy – R&D

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Canada.

📋 Description

• Act as the finance leader for Samsara's R&D division, collaborating directly with C-level executives on budget allocations, staffing choices, and infrastructure investments.

• Take ownership of FP&A for R&D and Supply Chain Operations, which includes conducting monthly budget vs. actual (BvA) reviews, quarterly reforecasts, and managing the annual operating plan across Software, Firmware, Hardware Engineering, Product Management, and Supply Chain Operations.

• Manage forecasting and controllership for COGS and Gross Margin, hardware expenses, employee costs, total compensation economics, and spending on AI infrastructure.

• Establish scalable financial processes and leverage AI tools to automate reporting, expedite analysis, and provide real-time insights to R&D leadership.

• Lead, nurture, and oversee a high-performing team.

• Recruit, develop, and guide an inclusive, engaged, and high-performing team.

⛳️ Requirements

• Over 7 years of experience in Corporate Finance, financial planning and analysis, or strategic finance.

• More than 2 years of experience in people management and development.

• Proficient in financial modeling and analysis.

• Strong ability to work collaboratively across various functions.

• Excellent communication and presentation skills; confident in presenting to senior management.

• Experience in a rapidly growing tech company.

• Previous partnerships with technical leaders.

• Capable of leading teams and driving long-term initiatives while achieving results.

• Eagerness and capability to create new financial processes and systems.

• Ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment with significant levels of ambiguity.

• Familiarity with AI tools (e.g., Claude, Cursor, ChatGPT, Gemini, etc.).

• Understanding of AWS cloud cost management.

• Expertise with systems (e.g., Adaptive Planning, NetSuite, Salesforce, Workday, etc.).

• Experience in handling large datasets and possessing technical data management and analysis skills (e.g., SQL, Tableau, etc.).
