Senior Manager, Engineering – Nova

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in California, +4 more states.

📋 Description

• Lead and expand several engineering teams or a large, multi-disciplinary group focused on creating agentic and AI-enabled product experiences.

• Collaborate with leadership in Product, Design, and Data Science to establish the technical roadmap and prioritize projects.

• Convert AI capabilities into scalable, user-oriented experiences.

• Drive the technical architecture and design of agent workflows, orchestration logic, and application integrations.

• Set standards for reliable, observable, secure, and enterprise-scale AI-powered features.

• Manage complex cross-functional initiatives while maintaining a balance between product delivery and long-term technical strategy.

• Advocate for engineering best practices regarding code quality, system resilience, testing, and iterative delivery.

• Guide, mentor, and support senior engineers, technical leads, and possibly engineering managers.

• Work together with principal engineers, data teams, and platform architecture groups on interfaces and dependencies.

• Spearhead hiring, headcount planning, and onboarding strategies as the AI engineering organization grows.

⛳️ Requirements

• Minimum of 8+ years of hands-on software development experience.

• At least 5+ years of experience in managing, scaling, and leading software engineering teams.

• Strong background in application or platform engineering.

• Demonstrated success in scaling systems within a SaaS environment.

• Experience in integrating complex AI or ML capabilities into production systems.

• Proven expertise in aligning product, platform, and data science teams.

• Sound technical judgment in areas such as system design, APIs, distributed systems, and developer workflows.

• Experience in overseeing engineering tasks across modern backend and frontend stacks.

• Capability to define strategic direction, make pragmatic trade-offs, and drive execution across multiple initiatives.

• Exceptional executive communication skills.

• Bonus: experience in managing engineering managers or multiple autonomous squads.

• Bonus: familiarity with agentic, LLM-powered, or generative AI product experiences.

• Bonus: knowledge of orchestration tools like Mastra or LangChain.
