Senior Manager – Accounting

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in California.

📋 Description

• Provide leadership and oversight in technical accounting for intricate areas such as capital and fixed assets, intercompany accounting, third-party revenue, and emerging accounting issues.

• Advise staff on complex transactions, non-routine accounting decisions, and adherence to technical standards.

• Review journal entries and balance sheet reconciliations to ensure compliance with GAAP and internal policies.

• Guarantee the timely and accurate completion of month-end close activities.

• Prepare or review schedules, disclosures, and supporting documents for financial statements, auditors, and senior management.

• Assist with detailed variance analysis and clarify budget versus actual results across revenue and expense categories.

• Develop, maintain, and assess accounting procedures and internal controls.

• Recommend and implement process enhancements that bolster compliance, accuracy, and efficiency.

• Create and sustain reporting through analytics and business intelligence tools.

• Identify and pursue opportunities to automate manual or repetitive accounting tasks.

• Investigate practical uses of company-approved AI-enabled tools and LLMs within accounting workflows.

• Design dashboards and self-service reports to enhance timely insights and minimize ad hoc requests.

• Supervise staff, including work planning, performance evaluations, conflict resolution, interviewing, and hiring recommendations.

• Provide or arrange training, support onboarding, and foster staff development.

• Monitor work schedules and staffing levels.

• Address accounting and reporting inquiries from operational departments and senior management.

• Collaborate with capital planning, legal, operations, and IT to meet financial reporting and project-driven accounting requirements.

• Execute other duties as assigned.

⛳️ Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance from an accredited institution.

• A minimum of six (6) years of progressively responsible and relevant accounting experience.

• Experience in one or more specialized areas such as fixed assets, lease accounting, or intercompany accounting.

• Previous management or supervisory experience is essential.

• Comprehensive understanding of GAAP relevant to complex technical domains like fixed assets (ASC 360), lease accounting (ASC 842), revenue recognition (ASC 606), or intercompany transactions.

• Ability to review and create journal entries, reconciliations, and supporting schedules for technically challenging accounting areas.

• Capability to supervise, coach, mentor, train, and assess accounting personnel.

• Skill in devising solutions to complex issues through data analysis and independent judgment.

• Proficient in communicating intricate accounting concepts clearly to non-finance stakeholders in both written and verbal forms, including presentations to senior leadership.

• Expertise in analytics and business intelligence tools such as Power BI, Tableau, or similar platforms.

• Ability to construct reports and dashboards that facilitate management decision-making.

• Familiarity with low-code or no-code automation tools, such as Power Automate, Excel-based scripting, or RPA solutions.

• Eagerness to explore company-approved AI-enabled tools, including LLM applications.

• Proficient in planning, organizing, prioritizing, and managing multiple workstreams.

• Adaptability to swiftly changing priorities and stringent close deadlines.

• Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships across finance, operations, legal, and IT functions.

• Knowledge of accounting systems and ERP platforms.

• Strong proficiency in Microsoft Excel, including advanced formulas, pivot tables, and data modeling.
