Senior Mainframe Systems Programmer – ADABAS

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.

📋 Description

• Execute upgrades, administration, and tuning of mainframe database Software for clients utilizing Software AG ADABAS environments.

• Collaborate with vendor personnel to promptly address and resolve database issues.

• Conduct daily database maintenance tasks, including modifications to database definitions, backups, and restoration processes.

• Monitor space utilization and carry out database reorganizations as needed.

• Develop and uphold disaster recovery protocols.

• Address and fulfill customer needs and requests.

• Execute database optimization, conduct performance reviews, and implement tuning measures.

• Assist with the onboarding of new clients.

• Provide on-call support 24/7 as part of a scheduled rotation.

• Keep documentation updated for all completed tasks.

• Comply with change management policies.

• Report directly to the Senior Manager - Mainframe Database.

⛳️ Requirements

• A Bachelor’s degree is required or equivalent professional experience.

• More than 10 years of experience with Software AG ADABAS/Natural and related products in administration and systems programming support.

• Significant experience in software management, maintenance, and documentation.

• Proficient in configuring and managing Software AG ADABAS and related products like Natural.

• In-depth knowledge of ADABAS database administration, NATURAL Security, and Fast Path.

• Experience in database design.

• Familiarity with defining FDT and DDMs.

• Background in performance tuning.

• Proficient in using ADABAS utilities such as Delta Save Facility, ADABAS Utilities, Natural utilities, SMA, Program Migration tool, and Review.

• Understanding of log archive and change accumulation utilities.

• Knowledge of ADARUN parameters and buffer pools.

• Awareness of protection logging and command logging.

• Experience in establishing policies and procedures for database management, disaster recovery, security, maintenance, and utilization.

• Experience reviewing new releases of Software AG ADABAS and associated products.

• Skills in vendor relationship management and problem resolution.

• Familiarity with applying licenses, ZAPs, and service packs for Software AG products.

• Experience working with Disaster Recovery Services and executing customer disaster recovery strategies.

• Experience supporting both planned and unplanned database recovery initiatives.

• Proficient in troubleshooting production databases and resolving issues.

• Capable of identifying and resolving performance-related issues.

• Experience in ADABAS/Natural database administration and customization.

• Proficient in batch and online operations of Software AG ADABAS/Natural.

• Experience in monitoring database space and performance.

• Background in large, 24/7 multi-database environments.

• Excellent written, verbal, and presentation communication skills.

• Ability to respond swiftly to support requests from multiple clients.

• Capability to adhere to ITSM change control processes.

• Ability to manage multiple tasks under tight deadlines and high-pressure scenarios.

• Ability to work autonomously as well as collaboratively in a team.
