This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.
• Lead and expand a machine learning engineering team through career development, conflict resolution, mentoring, providing feedback, setting goals, and recruitment.
• Identify and rectify gaps in team skills and processes.
• Collaborate with tech leads to rigorously test ideas, prioritize hypotheses, allocate computational resources and personnel, and manage experimentation portfolios.
• Balance immediate model enhancement commitments with long-term research opportunities and adjust resources as new evidence emerges.
• Establish stringent evaluation standards, including continuous assessments and validations that ensure offline results forecast online behavior accurately.
• Drive independent experimental workstreams towards comprehensive evaluation, candidate releases, and production deployment.
• Work closely with Risk partners on specified model-performance commitments while they manage thresholds, rules, and merchant decision applications.
• Operate independently to set the team's direction based on performance metrics and experimental outcomes.
• Collaborate with platform and infrastructure teams on feature systems, training pipelines, and experimentation tools.
• Present team outcomes to engineering leadership, Risk leaders, and the broader organization.
• Approximately 5+ years of experience in machine learning, data science, or software engineering related to ML.
• At least 3 years of experience in people management, including career development, conflict resolution, and fostering healthy, high-performing teams.
• Genuine expertise in at least one of engineering or applied statistics, with working proficiency in the other.
• Technical capability to engage with production models, code, evaluation pipelines, and statistical outcomes.
• Proven ability to lead initiatives amid uncertainty, establish direction, adapt based on evidence, and communicate decisions effectively.
• Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, including a strong ability to write documents.
• Capacity to identify priorities and autonomously assess outcome impacts in a rapidly changing environment.
