This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.
• Develop cutting-edge machine learning systems that merge economic theories with advanced machine learning algorithms.
• Create, implement, and optimize machine learning solutions addressing economic challenges within Instacart’s marketplace.
• Collaborate with product managers, data scientists, and engineers to identify business needs and develop impactful solutions.
• Enhance and evolve algorithms and models to boost operational efficiency.
• Disseminate insights, best practices, and research findings across various domains within the Economics team.
• Engage in areas such as marketplace incentives, pricing, product placement, matching and logistics, online advertising, uplift and long-term value modeling, as well as causal inference.
• Master's or PhD degree in Economics or a closely related discipline.
• A combination of economic theory, applied econometrics, and business acumen.
• Proficient in applying causal inference methodologies to both observational and experimental datasets.
• Familiarity with machine learning algorithms and techniques.
• Strong programming capabilities in Python.
• Proficient in SQL and Pandas.
• Experience with machine learning frameworks such as scikit-learn and XGBoost.
• Exceptional verbal and written communication skills.
• Self-driven with a strong sense of ownership.
• For the Senior Machine Learning Engineer I position: 1-3 years of relevant industry experience.
• For the Senior Machine Learning Engineer I position: experience in deploying machine learning models in production settings.
• For the Senior Machine Learning Engineer I position: familiarity with cloud computing and related machine learning infrastructure.
• Preferred: PhD in Economics or a closely related field focused on data-intensive challenges.
• Preferred: internship experience in relevant roles.
• Preferred: experience with large language models and generative AI.
• Preferred: knowledge of uplift modeling, contextual bandits, and/or heterogeneous treatment effect estimation.
