This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Canada.
• Design, develop, and launch product features powered by LLM technology, such as lab result summaries, clinical workflow tools, and conversational agents for practitioners.
• Create backend services that integrate LLMs and machine learning models into Fullscript’s platform, primarily utilizing Python and increasingly Elixir.
• Build AI systems that address open-ended clinical inquiries, facilitate follow-up interactions, and enable reasoning across both structured and unstructured healthcare contexts.
• Implement strategies for prompting, grounding, retrieval, and safety.
• Establish workflows for evaluation, testing, monitoring, and CI/CD related to AI features.
• Collaborate with medical, product, analytics, and engineering teams to convert clinical requirements into scalable AI solutions.
• Take ownership of AI systems from experimentation and prototyping through to production deployment, iteration, and continuous enhancement.
• Contribute to architectural and implementation decisions for AI-driven analytics, lab interpretation, and clinical decision-support workflows.
• Remain informed about the LLM, agentic AI, and applied ML ecosystems while evaluating production readiness.
• Over 7 years of experience in machine learning engineering, applied AI engineering, backend engineering, or a related field, with a proven history of delivering production systems.
• More than 2 years of recent, hands-on experience in developing LLM-powered applications, including conversational agents, RAG workflows, tool usage, or agentic systems.
• Strong expertise in backend development using Python.
• Solid understanding of SQL fundamentals.
• Familiarity with MCP, Langfuse, agent orchestration patterns, tool-calling systems, or multi-step AI workflows.
• Experience in integrating LLMs such as OpenAI, Gemini, Anthropic, or similar models into user-facing products.
• Proficiency with LangChain, LangGraph, Hugging Face tools, or other comparable frameworks.
• Strong engineering practices including version control with Git, testing, CI/CD, observability, evaluation, and production monitoring.
• Experience in assessing and validating LLM applications for quality, hallucinations, accuracy, edge cases, and reliability.
• Ability to work autonomously in ambiguous problem spaces while collaborating with technical, product, medical, and non-technical stakeholders.
