Senior Machine Learning Engineer, Behavioral Biometrics

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.

📋 Description

• Develop authorship verification models addressing the challenges of open-set verification.

• Derive behavioral signals from keystroke telemetry, encompassing timing distributions, digraph and trigraph latencies, pause and burst structures, editing and revision behaviors, and effort over time.

• Enhance model inference regarding latency, memory, and CPU usage on student laptops, incorporating quantization and runtime selection techniques.

• Create subject-disjoint evaluation splits while identifying any potential session leakage.

• Report on false accept and false reject rates, and assess performance across different keyboard layouts, device types, non-native typists, and writers with motor differences.

• Evaluate the model's resistance to replay attacks and synthetic keystroke generation.

• Assist in defining privacy and fairness standards for biometric data usage.

• Collaborate with data and software engineers to transition models from research notebooks to product releases while maintaining involvement post-deployment.

⛳️ Requirements

• M.S. with 3+ years of relevant experience, or a Ph.D. in Computer Science (or a related field).

• Direct research involvement through graduate lab work, thesis research, or published work.

• Proven experience in carrying a research question from hypothesis formulation through data collection, modeling, and validation.

• Proficient in advanced Python, with expertise in scikit-learn, pandas, NumPy, and a deep learning framework such as PyTorch.

• Strong background in gradient-boosted trees, including LightGBM, XGBoost, and random forests.

• Comfortable utilizing sequence models when the temporal structure justifies the expense.

• Knowledgeable about leakage, distribution shifts, small-sample effects, and evaluation setups that may favor the model.

• Excellent technical writing skills.

• Proficient in written and spoken English.
