Senior Machine Learning Engineer – Artist-First AI Music Lab

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in New York, +1 more state.

📋 Description

• Design, develop, assess, and refine machine learning training and inference pipelines for AI-powered music experiences.

• Assist in advancing ML pipelines to fully scaled, production-ready functionalities.

• Utilize machine learning and prompt engineering within intricate ML pipelines that incorporate large language models.

• Construct evaluation frameworks, including LLM-as-judge pipelines, to assess quality and facilitate rapid iteration.

• Collaborate with music subject-matter experts to generate training and reference data through synthetic creation, expert curation, and taxonomy development.

• Develop scalable systems that balance the speed of experimentation with the rigor of production, performance, reliability, and latency at Spotify scale.

• Work alongside Data Science teams to integrate evaluation frameworks with real-world usage signals to enhance model quality.

• Contribute to the technical direction and engineering best practices concerning model deployment, observability, experimentation, and production infrastructure.

• Engage cross-functionally with engineering, product, design, and music industry partners to craft new listening experiences for both artists and fans.

⛳️ Requirements

• Proven experience in applying machine learning within production environments.

• Practical experience with large language models, prompt engineering, evaluation systems, and deploying LLM-driven features in a production setting.

• Skilled in building and maintaining production ML systems using languages such as Python, Java, Scala, or similar.

• Familiarity with constructing large-scale data pipelines for sourcing, preparing, and evaluating training data.

• Experience with cloud platforms like GCP, AWS, Azure, or comparable infrastructure environments.

• Capability to articulate machine learning concepts, assumptions, and trade-offs to both technical and non-technical audiences.

• Background in developing user-facing products.

• Strong judgment regarding conversational AI and generative user experiences.

• Comfort with experimentation, iteration, and making data-driven product and engineering decisions.

• Ability to collaborate effectively in cross-functional teams.

• Must be located within the Eastern United States region.

• Must operate within the EST time zone for effective collaboration.
