This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Virginia.
• Prepare, coordinate, and ensure the timely submission of annual corporate, compliance, and regulatory reports, certifications, registrations, and related documentation required by state and federal authorities.
• Maintain and update schedules, calendars, and records pertaining to necessary corporate filings, licenses, certifications, registrations, and reporting obligations.
• Assist in monitoring legal and regulatory changes that impact the Company's products, operations, policies, and procedures.
• Support the execution of new or revised legal and compliance requirements through research, tracking updates, and aiding in internal communications and documentation revisions.
• Provide guidance to business units concerning the interpretation and application of legal documents, policy provisions, contracts, and state regulatory requirements, under the direction of Legal Services leadership.
• Conduct legal and regulatory research and prepare summaries, reports, or recommendations as needed.
• Assist with drafting legal correspondence, memoranda, reports, and other documents related to legal and compliance matters.
• Assemble, organize, and maintain documentation for litigation matters, administrative proceedings, audits, examinations, and investigations.
• Coordinate with internal departments and external legal counsel regarding legal issues and related information requests.
• Maintain legal files, records, and databases in compliance with departmental procedures and record retention policies.
• Review subpoenas, legal inquiries, regulatory requests, and other information requests from external entities.
• Assist with gathering documentation and preparing responses to subpoenas, legal inquiries, and regulatory requests under attorney supervision.
• Participate in special projects, process improvement initiatives, and other assignments as directed by Legal Services management.
• Assist with departmental initiatives aimed at enhancing legal operations, compliance processes, and record management practices.
• Perform additional duties as assigned.
• 5+ years of paralegal experience, with substantial exposure to corporate and transactional work.
• Experience in the life insurance, annuity, or broader financial services industry is highly preferred.
• Exceptional verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to influence multiple internal and multi-level stakeholders.
• An Associate's degree, Paralegal Certificate, or an equivalent combination of education and relevant experience is required; a Bachelor's degree is preferred.
• Strong legal research, analytical, organizational, and problem-solving abilities.
• Capability to manage multiple priorities, adhere to deadlines, and maintain meticulous attention to detail.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications and legal document management systems.
• Ability to manage confidential and sensitive information with discretion and professionalism.
