Senior Legal Counsel

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Croatia.

📋 Description

• Evaluate, negotiate, and provide feedback on incoming contracts from acquirers, liquidity providers, and other external partners.

• Manage the legal relationship with third-party payment and financial institutions from a contractual perspective.

• Develop and uphold Terms & Conditions for company products, websites, and applications.

• Navigate European payment regulations (EMD2, PSD2, AML/CFT frameworks) and integrate them into daily legal activities.

• Assist in ensuring compliance with the requirements set forth by payment institutions and financial regulators.

• Grasp the DORA and MiCA frameworks at a conceptual level, with the capability to delve deeper as required.

• Serve as a dependable second pair of eyes on legal issues managed by colleagues when necessary (e.g., during absences).

• Proactively identify risks and present solutions, rather than merely highlighting issues.

⛳️ Requirements

• Over 8 years of experience in legal positions within European financial institutions, payment companies, or banks.

• A law degree from a recognized university.

• Strong foundation in European payment law and regulation is essential.

• Experience operating at the intersection of legal and compliance/AML.

• Proven experience in drafting and negotiating contracts with financial counterparties.

• Highly detail-oriented and self-sufficient, capable of managing responsibilities independently with minimal supervision.

• Experience with cryptocurrency would be a substantial advantage.

• Proficiency in English (both written and verbal).

• Hands-on experience utilizing AI tools in everyday workflows (beyond basic ChatGPT usage).
