This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.
• Engage in significant process controls engineering projects for both existing and new nuclear power facilities as well as small modular reactors.
• Create digital systems that encompass PLCs, DCS, touchscreen interfaces, network switches, and control systems.
• Formulate functional requirements and procurement specifications for instrumentation and control systems and components.
• Compile evaluations for process instrumentation replacements and nuclear modification packages.
• Design mechatronics and control systems related to pumps, valves, heat exchangers, steam turbines, and reactors.
• Develop P&IDs and System Design Descriptions.
• Participate in client meetings and conduct site walkdowns.
• Guide and mentor junior nuclear instrumentation and controls design engineers.
• Assist with station outage activities as necessary.
• Spearhead automation and process enhancement initiatives utilizing data, automation, AI, or agentic AI tools, ensuring results verification.
• Supervise engineers in programming or scripting tasks utilizing tools like Python, MATLAB, or advanced Excel for automation of engineering tasks.
• A Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Electrical, Chemical, or Mechanical Engineering from a program accredited by the ABET Engineering Accreditation Commission, with coursework in instrumentation, mechatronics, and process controls design engineering is mandatory.
• At least 5 years of experience in design engineering specifically for process control systems.
• Preferably, experience in design engineering for control systems within nuclear power plants.
• Familiarity with control system design, including low- and medium-voltage distribution systems and controls for turbines, pumps, feedwater control, and data displays.
• Experience in designing instrumentation and control systems for either BWR or PWR reactors, including DCS for turbine, control, feedwater control, and data display.
• Technical proficiency in available equipment and established pre-engineered systems for systems design.
• Experience in reviewing design drawings created by others.
• A willingness or ability to take the lead using contemporary tools such as automation and AI.
