This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in California.
• Lead the design and management of on-premises virtualization environments, emphasizing QEMU/KVM and OpenNebula.
• Facilitate the transition from VMware to a KVM-based Infrastructure as Code private cloud model.
• Assist in the migration from TrueNAS to PowerFlex, which includes designing the storage cluster and ensuring smooth operational handoff.
• Create, develop, and sustain Infrastructure as Code utilizing Terraform, Packer, and Ansible.
• Manage and enhance distributed storage infrastructure and protocols such as NFS, CIFS, and block storage.
• Ensure the monitoring, upkeep, and resilience of critical R&D environments.
• Analyze incident root causes, pinpoint systemic issues, and drive resolution efforts.
• Mentor junior engineers and offer technical guidance.
• Contribute to and evaluate Infrastructure as Code, automation scripts, and configuration management code.
• Support the operation of CrowdStrike’s software factory at scale.
• Proficient with hypervisor platforms; QEMU/KVM is highly preferred for on-premises workloads, with experience in VMware or Xen also relevant.
• Familiarity with OpenNebula or comparable private cloud platforms.
• Strong proficiency in Python for automation, tooling, and infrastructure scripting.
• Experience with Infrastructure as Code tools such as Terraform, Packer, and Ansible.
• Knowledge of cloud environments like AWS, Azure, or GCP.
• Experience managing large-scale distributed storage infrastructure and protocols (NFS, CIFS).
• Acquainted with enterprise operating systems (Linux, Windows, MacOS) at scale.
• Proficient with CI/CD tools including Jenkins and GitLab CI.
• Experience using git-based source code repositories (Bitbucket, GitLab).
• Demonstrated experience applying AI technologies to improve decision-making, streamline workflows and processes, enhance efficiency, and drive business outcomes.
• Over 7 years of experience in a large-scale production infrastructure environment.
• Must be willing to participate in an on-call rotation.
• Exceptional written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to lead effectively across a distributed team across multiple time zones.
• Keen attention to detail and sound judgment in a fast-paced environment.
• Security-conscious with a fundamental understanding of cybersecurity principles.
• Willingness to travel for team meetings.
• Must periodically undergo and pass additional background and fingerprint checks in line with government customer requirements.
• Experience with OpenStack or other open-source IaaS platforms is a plus.
• Familiarity with Dell PowerFlex, TrueNAS, or similar storage solutions is a plus.
• Experience with bare metal provisioning (Canonical MAAS, OpenStack Ironic, PXE) is a plus.
• Knowledge of Rancher or other on-premises Kubernetes platforms is a plus.
• Experience with Windows infrastructure: Active Directory, DNS, SMB/CIFS, WDS/MDT is a plus.
