Senior Infrastructure Engineer

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.

📋 Description

• Serve as the operational foundation for the engineering team.

• Take charge of the legacy environment while contributing to the architecture and strategy for upcoming projects.

• Ensure the stability, security, and high availability of production virtual machines that run Java/Tomcat applications and MySQL 5.7 instances.

• Manage incidents, identify root causes, optimize performance, and maintain essential legacy systems.

• Oversee the production incident-management lifecycle, assess alerts, troubleshoot OS-level bottlenecks, debug performance concerns, and lead root-cause analysis efforts.

• Monitor system performance, application logs, and resource health utilizing observability platforms like Observe by Snowflake.

• Maintain, patch, and secure current GCP virtual machines.

• Supervise MySQL 5.7 instances, manage backups, and resolve connection pool exhaustion or locking challenges.

• Collaborate on the design, provisioning, and scaling of cloud infrastructure for new products and services using cloud-native tools and managed services such as Cloud SQL and BigQuery.

• Automate manual operational tasks with scripts and infrastructure tools.

• Ensure compliance with enterprise security through OS hardening, access controls, and vulnerability patching.

⛳️ Requirements

• A minimum of 5 years' experience in System Administration, Site Reliability Engineering (SRE), or Infrastructure Operations within an enterprise setting.

• In-depth knowledge of Linux administration, performance tuning, and troubleshooting, including storage and file system management, particularly ZFS.

• Demonstrated experience in running, tuning, and debugging Java/Tomcat applications in a production environment.

• Strong working knowledge of MySQL 5.7, encompassing query tuning, replication, backup/restore strategies, and migration troubleshooting.

• Proficiency in shell scripting and creating lightweight automation using Bash.

• Practical experience with Google Cloud Platform and managed services, including Cloud SQL and BigQuery.

• Experience architecting and managing containerized environments using Docker and Kubernetes in production.

• Familiarity with Infrastructure-as-Code tools, specifically Terraform, and modern CI/CD deployment processes.

• Ability to remain calm under pressure and adopt a methodical, safety-first approach to live-site incident response.

• A pragmatic approach to problem-solving, concentrating on practical and stable solutions.

• Excellent communication skills to collaborate with developers and stakeholders during critical migrations or outages.

• Familiarity with Java development is preferable but not mandatory.

• Experience transitioning legacy technology stacks to contemporary GCP/cloud-native setups is preferable but not mandatory.
