Senior Hardware Engineer, Radar

📋 Description

• Oversee the technical development of radar or lidar sensing systems from the initial concept phase, through benchmarking and sourcing, to production launch.

• Establish sensor performance objectives, requirements, evaluation criteria, and validation plans that cater to vehicle, perception, and operational design domain (ODD) requirements.

• Spearhead sensor benchmarking and the technical selection process among potential suppliers and technologies.

• Lead technical collaboration with suppliers, which includes conducting requirements reviews, data assessments, architecture discussions, issue resolution, and evaluating design maturity.

• Direct architectural and tradeoff decisions concerning sensing performance, environmental resilience, packaging, thermal constraints, power consumption, diagnostics, manufacturability, and cost efficiency.

• Collaborate effectively across various teams including systems, perception, firmware, validation, vehicle integration, manufacturing, and quality assurance.

• Analyze supplier, bench, track, and vehicle test data; identify performance deficiencies; ascertain root causes; and implement corrective measures.

• Evaluate the technical validity of supplier evidence and confront unsupported claims, weak correlations, incomplete validations, and unsubstantiated conclusions.

• Develop technical plans, milestones, risks, and mitigation strategies leading to nomination and product launch.

• Relay technical updates, outstanding issues, and tradeoffs to engineering leadership and cross-functional collaborators.


⛳️ Requirements

• A Bachelor's degree in Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Robotics, or a related discipline, along with 7+ years of relevant experience (or a Master's degree and 5+ years of relevant experience, or a PhD and 2+ years of relevant experience).

• More than 8 years of experience in automotive sensing, with substantial hands-on expertise in radar or lidar and proven technical leadership in complex hardware projects.

• A solid foundational understanding of radar or lidar sensing principles.

• Proficiency in scripting and analysis using Python, including hands-on experience with tools like NumPy, pandas, Jupyter, and others.

• Capacity to work directly with supplier logs, raw data captures, decoded outputs, and datasets from vehicle tests.

• Familiarity with Wireshark/PCAP analysis, CAN tools (CANoe/CANalyzer or similar), ROS/rosbag or equivalent logging frameworks, point cloud or radar visualization tools, CAN, CAN FD, and automotive Ethernet.

• Ability to independently evaluate supplier test outcomes, which includes test configurations, calibration, ground truth, statistical significance, repeatability, boundary conditions, filters, KPI definitions, and sensor performance.

• Capability to lead and critically evaluate technical design reviews.

• Experience in translating system and perception requirements into sensor specifications, validation techniques, and supplier deliverables.

• Experience collaborating across hardware, firmware, systems, perception, validation, manufacturing, and supplier teams.

• Strong technical judgment and effective communication skills.

• Candidates must possess legal authorization to work permanently in the United States.
