This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Washington.
• Engage with the Unreal Engine C++ source code to execute intricate refactors and engine enhancements that facilitate expansive open-world gameplay.
• Analyze GPU performance and address significant rendering bottlenecks associated with draw calls, level of detail (LOD) transitions, and overdraw issues.
• Examine the specific hardware profiles of contemporary consoles (PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S), maximizing their architectural capabilities while strictly following their VRAM limits, memory bandwidths, and certification requirements.
• Improve and optimize the Unreal Engine 5 rendering framework, collaborating closely with features such as Lumen, Nanite, and hardware ray tracing.
• Work directly with the Technical Art and VFX teams to develop and refine custom rendering systems for dynamic in-game elements.
• Offer extensive technical support for materials and shader pipelines to animate complex environmental interactions, including dense interactive foliage and physical weather systems.
• Collaborate with the Creature Art and Tech Animation teams to innovate new rendering methods, incorporating advanced techniques for fur, skin shaders, and deformation.
• Support the creative vision while efficiently optimizing draw calls and rendering expenses for scenes densely populated with numerous creatures.
• Establish scalability scenarios across various GPU tiers to manage VRAM allocations and achieve strict performance objectives.
• Integrate, adjust, and enhance modern upscaling and frame generation technologies (such as DLSS, FSR, PSSR, and TSR).
• Co-develop engine-level technical artist tools and produce documentation or best practices to elevate the rendering capabilities for artists throughout the studio.
• Actively investigate, debug, and resolve intricate low-level graphics crashes and rendering issues across PC and modern console platforms.
• Conduct regular memory tracking, in-depth performance analysis, load time assessments, and address critical race conditions/deadlocks.
• Create internal tools and enhance engine features to streamline iteration processes and support the development workflows for expansive survival ecosystems.
• Oversee and optimize large-scale asset pipelines, packaging, and streaming architectures to manage the substantial data demands of a dense open-world survival game.
• 5+ years of professional experience in C/C++, with a focus on real-time rendering and low-level GPU systems.
• Extensive knowledge of rendering architecture utilizing modern graphics APIs, particularly DirectX 12 (DX12).
• Practical experience in profiling, debugging, and pinpointing frame time enhancements using tools like PIX.
• Strong skills in authoring HLSL shaders, compute shaders, and PBR materials.
• Profound, hands-on experience in modifying and extending the Unreal Engine 4/5 source code.
• Significant experience with version control systems, especially Perforce.
• Availability to work core hours from 10:00 AM PST to 4:00 PM PST.
• Readiness to be on-call for immediate issue resolution and to work intensively during critical shipping periods to support significant content launches.
• We cover 100% of all premiums for employees and offer discounted rates for dependent premiums.
