Senior Frontend Engineer – Design Systems

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in California, +2 more states.

📋 Description

• Create and sustain the components, patterns, and foundational elements (tokens, typography, color schemes, layout) that are integral to Mercury's product, maintaining high standards for accessibility, performance, and meticulous craftsmanship.

• Spearhead initiatives that introduce new UI patterns to address genuine challenges faced by product teams, enabling them to enhance user experiences more efficiently.

• Develop a design system that is well-suited for both AI applications and human users, leveraging technology to achieve optimized results.

• Enhance the design system's prototyping capabilities, influencing the next phase of how our design team rapidly prototypes, refines the product, and tests new ideas.

• Elevate the craftsmanship and AI expertise of your colleagues through mentorship and the establishment of clear best practices.

⛳️ Requirements

• Over 4 years of experience in frontend development, with substantial expertise in React, TypeScript, and contemporary web technologies.

• Proven experience in creating or managing a design system or a shared component library.

• In-depth understanding of modern frontend tools: build systems, CI/CD, and testing methodologies.

• A strong sense of agency, comfortable in navigating ambiguous situations. You take initiative and act without waiting for a predetermined route.

• Ability to think in first principles while remaining focused on outcomes. You make decisive choices that lead to results rather than becoming ensnared in unresolved questions.

• A refined sense of product design and an instinct for impactful changes: improvements that benefit multiple teams rather than just refining one component in isolation.

• Practical expertise at the intersection of AI and software development, with a solid understanding of how emerging AI trends are transforming software creation, and the capability to leverage this for the design system and its users.
