Senior Forward Deployed Actuary

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Alaska, +11 more states.

📋 Description

• Assist practices in addressing client needs for AI transformation capabilities.

• Identify opportunities, lead diagnostic workshops, create proposals, and formulate AI use cases.

• Convert client strategic goals, target operating models, and workflow challenges into AI transformation roadmaps, use case portfolios, and implementation strategies.

• Link AI use cases to quantifiable business value, adoption requirements, and scalable delivery methods.

• Analyze insurance workflows, decision-making processes, handoffs, controls, data flows, expert reasoning patterns, and areas of concern.

• Revamp target workflows centered around AI-driven delivery, automation, expert judgment, human oversight, governance, auditability, and change management.

• Document expert knowledge in AI-optimized artifacts such as reasoning workflows, process documentation, prompt patterns, knowledge bases, evaluation criteria, and agentic workflow specifications.

• Collaborate in designing AI-enabled solutions alongside business experts, AI engineers, and product owners.

• Provide guidance on enterprise AI tools, generative AI, knowledge assistants, agentic workflow platforms, document intelligence, evaluation techniques, and responsible AI governance.

• Establish requirements, success metrics, validation methodologies, adoption considerations, and handoff materials for prototypes, MVPs, and scalable implementations.

• Partner with practice leaders, domain experts, AI engineers, and AI architects.

• Create reusable methods and resources, coordinate demand across practices, and contribute to the establishment of a scalable AI business engagement and engineering capability.

⛳️ Requirements

• Must be legally authorized to work in the United States without requiring immigration support or sponsorship from Milliman now or in the future.

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Actuarial Science, Engineering, Computer Science, Applied Mathematics, Data Science, Business, Finance, Insurance, or a related quantitative or business discipline.

• 6–8 years of pertinent professional experience in insurance, actuarial consulting, business transformation, operations, data management, technology-enabled consulting, or related sectors.

• Experience in supporting business development, proposal preparation, client workshops, solution scoping, or transformation roadmap creation.

• Exceptional communication and stakeholder management abilities.

• Capacity to connect senior business leaders, subject matter experts, AI engineers, technology teams, and client delivery teams.

• Entrepreneurial mindset with structured problem-solving skills and commercial insight.

• Eagerness to develop a new capability within a rapidly evolving AI Solutions practice.

• In-depth knowledge of insurance workflows in actuarial, underwriting, claims, reporting, compliance, risk, or related functions.

• Proficiency in mapping business processes, organizing expert knowledge, identifying improvement opportunities, and translating ambiguous business issues into actionable solution requirements.

• Ability to collaborate on requirements, prototype design, evaluation, architectural considerations, security constraints, deployment alternatives, and production-readiness gaps.

• Practical understanding of enterprise AI tools, including chat, coding, active agents, workflow automation, document intelligence, data analysis, and prototyping environments.

• Working proficiency with LLMs, prompt design, retrieval-augmented generation, knowledge assistants, agentic workflows, evaluation methods, human-in-the-loop design, and responsible AI practices.
