
Senior Finance Director – North America

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States, +1 more country.
• Act as a strategic advisor and collaborator for the EVP of North America, Caribbean, and Micronesia, concentrating on long-term and annual planning, budgeting, business growth, and financial viability.
• Work alongside divisional and business unit leaders on financial planning and strategic decision-making processes.
• Oversee the finances of the North America Region, including budget management, expense tracking, results evaluation, and implementation of corrective measures.
• Drive strategic financial and organization-wide initiatives, encompassing the execution of operating models, redesign of resource allocation, comprehensive costing, indirect cost recovery, and multi-year financial planning.
• Align conservation and campaign priorities with annual and multi-year financial strategies.
• Provide financial planning and analytical support for significant conservation projects and initiatives.
• Direct quarterly forecasting, annual planning and budgeting, and multi-year planning activities.
• Enhance and implement best practices for financial planning, reporting, and analysis across finance teams.
• Prepare and deliver analyses, recommendations, presentations, and reports for senior leadership.
• Supervise ten direct reports and facilitate the support of an overall finance team comprising more than 100 personnel.
• Report to Finance leadership and the Board of Directors Finance Committee regarding North America operations.
• Represent the Finance Division on organization-wide committees and participate in the Finance Leadership Team.
• Supply financial reports, projections, models, and analyses to the CFO, Executive Leadership Team, and other key stakeholders.
• Analyze financial trends, convey insights, and assist in prioritizing capital allocation and resource investments.
• Ensure adherence to programmatic commitments, policies, procedures, financial standards, and legal obligations.
• Oversee financial policies, procedures, and institutional guidelines.
• Develop, evaluate, and monitor regional, divisional, and business unit budgets, forecasts, and multi-year strategies.
• Aid in negotiations for complex or sensitive agreements and provide financial expertise for special projects.
• Recruit and train finance personnel, uphold confidentiality, and manage competing priorities effectively.
• Travel domestically and/or internationally approximately 10-20% of the time.
• Bachelor’s Degree in Finance, Accounting, or Business Administration and 11 years of related experience, including at the senior level, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Experience in organization-wide oversight across several major finance domains, such as accounting, note management, cash management, cash/investment planning, or similar fields.
• Proven experience in envisioning and executing major strategic initiatives, such as system integrations, M&A, or similarly significant projects.
• Expertise in managing the finances of organization-wide programs, including setting financial objectives, analyzing outcomes, and initiating corrective actions.
• Senior-level experience collaborating with C-suite executives and other senior leaders.
• Extensive experience supervising remote professional teams of 25 or more and leading across multiple management levels.
• Knowledge of either not-for-profit accounting principles, practices, and regulations, or experience in global, matrixed for-profit finance with a willingness to learn not-for-profit accounting and finance.
• Familiarity with complex accounting and financial issues.
• Experience conducting complex financial analyses and reporting.
• Proven track record in leading long-term planning and forecasting efforts.
• Proficient in utilizing complex financial systems and analytical tools.
• Experience working with senior management and Boards of Directors on finance-related matters.
• Extensive knowledge of GAAP.
• Strong ability to communicate financial analyses and recommendations clearly and persuasively in both written and verbal formats.
• Capability to manage multiple competing priorities and deadlines under pressure while being accountable for results.
• Ability to meet background screening requirements.
• Willingness to travel domestically and/or internationally approximately 10-20% of the time.
• Role must be based in the continental United States or Ontario, Alberta, or Northwest Territories, Canada.
• Desired: CPA or MBA; experience with nonprofit financial and government grants accounting/reporting; budgets of $500M+; Workday; extensive large-team management; project management; multilingual or multicultural experience.
