Senior Exploratory QE Engineer

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United Kingdom, +3 more countries.

📋 Description

• Design and execute structured exploratory testing charters for new features, APIs, and high-risk platform areas.

• Examine intricate payment and card lifecycle processes to uncover edge cases, state issues, and integration gaps.

• Collaborate with automation QE engineers to decide what should be automated and what necessitates human testing.

• Integrate exploratory findings back into the regression suite.

• Conduct risk-based test planning for software releases.

• Identify areas most prone to failure and articulate the reasons.

• Analyze production incidents and near-misses to pinpoint underlying gaps in test coverage.

• Address gaps in test coverage effectively.

• Advocate for a quality-oriented mindset throughout engineering and elevate the standards for project completion.

• Advance the exploratory testing practice, encompassing charters, session-based test management, heuristics, and reporting.

• Operate within a regulated, security-focused environment, keeping data protection, PCI DSS, and audit requirements in consideration.

⛳️ Requirements

• Over 5 years of experience in software quality engineering or testing.

• Proven history of leading exploratory testing on complex, business-critical systems.

• Strong familiarity with exploratory testing methodologies, including session-based test management, charters, and heuristics.

• Capability to read and analyze APIs, logs, databases, and system architecture.

• Experience in testing distributed, API-driven, or financial/payment systems is highly advantageous.

• Working knowledge of test automation practices.

• Skill in producing clear, actionable bug reports and risk assessments.

• Ability to work independently while being accountable for quality results.

• Experience in payments, card issuing, banking, or regulated fintech environments is a plus.

• Familiarity with testing API vulnerabilities is beneficial.

• Exposure to Jira, Confluence, Postman, and CI/CD pipelines is advantageous.

• ISTQB or equivalent testing certification is desirable.
