This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Colorado.
• Develop the long-term technical strategy for excitation systems within the global nuclear fleet, encompassing obsolescence management, digital enhancements, and life-extension initiatives.
• Ensure that all designs and modifications related to excitation comply with nuclear regulatory standards as well as internal Nuclear Quality Management Systems.
• Oversee Root Cause Analysis (RCA) for complex and high-priority system disturbances in nuclear facilities, ensuring that solutions emphasize both plant availability and safety-critical stability.
• Direct advanced modeling and simulation efforts to assess the interaction between large-scale nuclear baseload generation and evolving grid codes, safeguarding the fleet's ongoing stability.
• Offer expert consulting to the Commercial and Sales teams for multi-million dollar nuclear retrofit proposals, ensuring technical viability and risk management.
• Institutionalize decades of expertise in the excitation domain by mentoring Staff and Lead engineers in nuclear excitation engineering.
• Conduct formal design reviews for New Product Introductions (NPI) and custom nuclear applications, ensuring thorough verification and validation (V&V) processes.
• Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering (Master’s or PhD is strongly preferred).
• At least 10 years of experience in power generation engineering, with a minimum of 5–8 years specifically dedicated to excitation systems or mission-critical power plant controls.
• Experience in a Nuclear Safety Culture and familiarity with nuclear-specific quality and documentation standards.
• Profound understanding of synchronous generator theory and power system stability.
• Strong systems engineering skills with the capability to lead complex, cross-functional integration efforts encompassing excitation controls, generator systems, plant interfaces, and nuclear operational requirements.
• Willingness to travel globally (up to 25%) to support outages, customer design reviews, and regulatory audits (For Remote candidates, travel may require up to 50%).
