Senior Engineering Manager, Voice and Video

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Ireland.

📋 Description

• Lead a team of senior engineers in the development of Twilio's next-generation media processing stack.

• Drive technical architecture decisions for media systems that prioritize low latency and high throughput.

• Collaborate with product, platform teams, and other engineering divisions to outline technical roadmaps.

• Establish engineering excellence through the implementation of code quality standards, testing methodologies, and operational reliability.

• Mentor engineers while providing technical guidance on complex media processing issues.

• Balance the reduction of technical debt with feature development, ensuring consistent service reliability.

• Build and enhance systems capable of handling real-time media processing at scale.

• Own service performance metrics, reliability targets, and initiatives for continuous improvement.

• Partner with engineering leaders to align media platform capabilities with the broader Voice strategy.

• Make significant technology stack decisions that influence Twilio's media processing capabilities.

⛳️ Requirements

• Over 5 years of engineering management experience leading teams that build distributed systems.

• A solid understanding of Voice/VoIP infrastructure and the challenges of media handling.

• Strong technical expertise with a proven track record in architecting and building backend services at scale, ensuring high reliability under strict service level objectives (SLOs).

• In-depth knowledge of systems design, microservice architecture, and cloud infrastructure.

• Experience in managing intricate technical tradeoffs between reliability, scalability, and feature development.

• A history of successfully delivering critical infrastructure projects with considerable technical complexity.

• Proven experience in enhancing developer velocity with the use of AI tools.

• Strong understanding of performance optimization, reliability engineering, and operational excellence.

• Excellent communication skills, capable of conveying complex technical concepts to both technical and non-technical audiences.

• Experience with at least one of the following: real-time communications systems, media processing, streaming technologies, or similar fields.
