Senior Engineering Manager – Security Engineering

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Netherlands.

📋 Description

• Build and expand a centralized Security Engineering team, beginning with the Customer Identity team and growing with additional hires as needed.

• Define the operational framework, collaborate on the roadmap, and develop tracking systems for security engineering efforts across all product lines.

• Recruit, nurture, and maintain a high-performing team of software engineers with a focus on security.

• Foster a team culture rooted in engineering excellence, pragmatic security practices, and robust cross-functional collaboration.

• Lead the design and execution of security product features across ClickHouse Cloud, Postgres, Langfuse, and OSS, focusing on areas such as encryption, identity and access management, network isolation, sandboxing, and authentication.

• Drive comprehensive ownership of security engineering projects, minimizing reliance on ad-hoc resource allocation from individual engineering teams.

• Create distinct lanes and a dedicated tracking system for all security product features, ensuring consistent visibility for security and product leadership.

• Oversee cross-functional dependencies across Core, Data Platform, Cloud Platform, and Product Security teams.

• Collaborate closely with Product Management and Security teams to ensure engineering solutions are based on solid risk and threat modeling, allowing the team to concentrate on assurance and vulnerability tasks instead of implementation.

• Work in partnership with GRC and Trust & Assurance to ensure that security engineering outputs meet compliance, customer enablement, and audit requirements.

• Collaborate with engineering and product leadership to align on architectural direction, prioritization, and resource allocation.

• Act as the primary accountable individual for security engineering commitments related to the product strategy and roadmap.

⛳️ Requirements

• Demonstrated experience in building and managing engineering teams, encompassing hiring, performance management, and career development.

• Proven track record of establishing new teams or functions, including setting operational models, cultivating culture, and creating accountability structures from the ground up.

• Capability to lead and influence cross-functional stakeholders, including senior leaders in engineering and product management, without direct authority.

• Strong hands-on experience in security engineering or software engineering with a significant emphasis on security—able to credibly assess architecture, guide implementation, and challenge technical decisions.

• Experience in delivering security product features within cloud or SaaS environments, including areas like identity and access management, encryption, network security controls, or secure multi-tenancy.

• Familiarity with cloud infrastructure (AWS, GCP, Azure), Kubernetes, and distributed systems.

• Understanding of the intersection between security features, product strategy, compliance requirements, and customer trust.

• Proven ability to manage complex, cross-functional programs—defining roadmaps, managing dependencies, and fulfilling commitments.

• Strong instincts for prioritization and risk-based decision-making in dynamic environments.

• Experience in creating scalable systems and processes—tracking, reporting, and coordination tools that provide leadership visibility without adding friction.

• BS, MS, or PhD in Computer Science or a related field.

• Prior experience at a cloud infrastructure, database, or developer tools company.

• Previous contributions to open source projects.
