Senior Engineering Manager, Platform Engineering

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Texas.

📋 Description

• Lead, recruit, and develop a team of platform engineers, guiding them towards a product-focused mindset and fostering empathy for developers.

• Take ownership of the platform's vision and roadmap as a product.

• Conduct direct discovery with stream-aligned teams to prioritize and define the platform's scope.

• Publish and sustain a team charter that outlines platform services, service level objectives (SLOs), support models, and team engagement strategies.

• Assess success using DORA metrics, developer satisfaction, adoption of the golden path, and self-service ratios.

• Manage the platform with established SLOs, versioning, and on-call responsibilities.

• Oversee platform-wide migrations, ensuring that the platform team alleviates the load for product teams.

• Evaluate, implement, and assess AI-assisted development tools across the engineering domain.

⛳️ Requirements

• A minimum of 8 years of software engineering experience, including practical involvement in platform engineering.

• 3 to 5 years of leadership experience in engineering teams (4 or more individuals), preferably in platform, engineering, or developer tooling roles.

• Proven experience managing an internal platform as a product.

• Familiarity with operating highly available systems within AWS.

• Working knowledge of containers, infrastructure as code (Terraform), CI/CD processes, and observability practices.

• Strong technical judgment complemented by a hands-on approach.

• Experience utilizing DORA metrics, SLOs, and developer experience surveys.

• Exceptional communication skills and the ability to influence without direct authority.

• Capability to lead cross-team migrations involving teams outside of your direct management.
