Senior Engineering Manager, Media Foundation

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.

📋 Description

• Lead a team responsible for developing and managing Airbnb's media infrastructure for photo, video, and document interactions.

• Establish the technical strategy and architecture for media infrastructure across various teams.

• Define the team's vision and guide the organization towards broader objectives.

• Supervise daily operations, conduct technical deep dives, engage with the internal engineering community, and participate in strategic planning.

• Ensure the reliability, scalability, and progressive enhancement of Airbnb's media systems.

• Mentor, coach, and advance the skills of managers and senior technical leaders.

• Collaborate with Product, Design, Trust, and infrastructure teams on the media platform roadmap.

• Advocate for engineering excellence and operational discipline.

• Address systemic technical debt that impacts reliability, performance, or speed.

• Recruit, develop, and maintain a diverse team of engineers and managers.

⛳️ Requirements

• 12+ years of experience in the industry.

• At least 6+ years of experience in engineering management, including overseeing other managers or senior technical leaders.

• Bachelor’s and/or Master’s degree in Computer Science or a related field, or equivalent professional experience.

• Extensive knowledge of large-scale distributed systems.

• Proven experience in setting technical strategy and architecture for multiple teams.

• Background in media/content infrastructure, including ingestion, processing, storage, or CDN delivery is highly desirable.

• Strong product instincts combined with excellent communication skills.

• Experience in influencing senior cross-functional and cross-organizational stakeholders.

• Proven ability to lead and deliver large, cross-team initiatives that have a significant impact on the business.

• Experience in fostering cultures of operational excellence, quality, and reliability.

• Ability to make sound judgments balancing immediate business needs with long-term technical and organizational sustainability.

• Adaptive leadership style suitable for varying levels of team maturity.

• Capability to identify, retain, develop, and recruit engineering and management talent.

• Dedication to promoting diversity, equity, and inclusion within teams.

• Must reside in a state where Airbnb, Inc. is legally registered.
