This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.
• Define and implement the long-term strategy for Calendly's data platform and ecosystem.
• Create a scalable, reliable, and cost-effective platform that supports analytics, experimentation, operational reporting, machine learning, and AI applications.
• Lead modernization efforts across data ingestion, transformation, orchestration, governance, observability, and serving layers.
• Develop internal platform capabilities that empower analysts, data scientists, ML engineers, and product teams.
• Enhance data discoverability, governance, lineage, and quality.
• Promote the adoption of self-service tools and standardized workflows.
• Recruit engineers and leaders to grow both new and existing teams across the organization, with accountability for all new hires joining the squad.
• Address challenges that expedite progress for the entire engineering organization.
• Mentor, develop, and integrate new engineering team members.
• Foster the professional growth, engagement, and performance of engineers on your team.
• Ensure the systems under your team's management are operating effectively, fulfilling service level commitments, and ready to scale.
• Anticipate future technical requirements and devise strategies to meet them.
• Provide feedback and guidance to support our ongoing growth and expansion.
• 7+ years of experience in leading data and analytics engineering teams.
• 10+ years of overall development experience, particularly in Data Platforms and Products (preferably SQL, Python, Java, Scala, or other strongly typed languages).
• Strong understanding of data warehousing, batch and streaming data pipelines, data orchestration and workflow management, data modeling and transformation frameworks, metadata, lineage, and governance systems, as well as data observability and reliability practices.
• Ability to balance technical excellence with business outcomes, demonstrating strong systems thinking and prioritization skills.
• Deep expertise in data application development and building scalable architecture for enterprise-grade data warehouses and streaming engines.
• Capacity to be a hands-on contributor when necessary, with a focus on enablement.
• Experience in planning and leading development efforts on large-scale projects.
• Previous experience in leading and mentoring teams, guiding them towards significant goals with consistent execution.
• Excellent communication skills, capable of clearly explaining complex technical concepts.
• Experience in leading Agile/Scrum ceremonies.
• Prior experience working within a balanced engineering and product team.
• Authorized to work legally in the United States, as Calendly does not currently offer immigration sponsorship.
