Senior Engineering Manager, Core Platform

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in New York.

📋 Description

• Lead, develop, and mentor a Platform Engineering team, recruiting and nurturing engineers from junior to staff levels.

• Take ownership of the roadmap delivery and ensure the technical excellence of platform capabilities that encompass cloud infrastructure, Kubernetes, CI/CD, observability, and developer tools.

• Advocate for a “platform as a product” approach — regard internal developers as customers, collect their feedback, and prioritize initiatives based on the impact on developer experience (DevEx).

• Ensure operational excellence for the team’s services: establish an on-call philosophy, manage incident responses, and conduct blameless post-mortems while promoting psychological safety following production incidents.

• Assess build-versus-buy decisions for internal tools compared to third-party SaaS offerings.

• Work within a regulated framework — guarantee that the speed of delivery does not compromise compliance or security obligations (e.g., GLI, state/country betting & gaming regulations) in CI/CD and infrastructure modifications.

• Evaluate and assist in the implementation of AI-assisted engineering tools (e.g., AI coding assistants, log analysis) across the distributed team while maintaining security standards.

• Clearly communicate the health of the platform, roadmap, and results to engineering leadership and stakeholders, utilizing business and platform success metrics.

⛳️ Requirements

• Demonstrated experience in directly managing platform engineering teams (not merely adjacent teams such as database enablement or general backend teams).

• Strong practical expertise with cloud infrastructure (AWS), Kubernetes, and CI/CD/release engineering, enabling credible review of architecture and technical proposals.

• Proven strengths in people management: coaching and mentoring, performance assessment, and fostering an environment of psychological safety.

• Experience in constructing and articulating a multi-quarter strategic roadmap for a platform organization — translating business priorities and DevEx insights into a planned set of investments, while justifying trade-offs against competing stakeholder expectations.
