This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Canada, +1 more state.
• Oversee two cross-functional product development teams focused on the Joist product.
• Inspire engineering teams through example, promoting kindness, quality, and accountability.
• Provide constructive feedback to enhance team performance.
• Facilitate coordination and communication with colleagues both within and outside the engineering department.
• Establish clear goals and keep stakeholders informed about delivery timelines.
• Identify and eliminate project obstacles to ensure timely delivery to customers.
• Assist engineers in the design of robust and scalable systems.
• Break down business challenges into well-structured systems.
• Choose suitable tools based on algorithms, data structures, design patterns, and data storage technologies.
• Participate in solution development from initial concept through to deployment.
• Collaborate with Product Management to experiment, iterate, and deliver quickly.
• Mentor and develop engineering talent.
• Support software delivery, foster team growth, and enhance development processes.
• Over 5 years of experience leading engineers in a product development context as their direct manager.
• Preferably possess experience managing teams across various technology stacks.
• More than 5 years of professional industry experience as a software developer within agile teams.
• A proven track record of mentoring and advancing the skills of other engineers.
• Demonstrated capability to oversee software projects from scoping and estimation to production launch.
• Ability to collaborate with Product Management to experiment, iterate, and deliver quickly to customers.
• Proficient in clearly and concisely communicating complex technical topics.
• Strong perspectives on software and product development while remaining open to others’ insights.
• Expertise in agile software development methodologies and managing high-performing engineering teams.
• Direct experience with Ruby on Rails, React, iOS (Swift), or Android (Kotlin) is advantageous.
• Experience managing teams in organizations with multiple product squads utilizing a shared platform/infrastructure is a plus.
