Senior Engineer

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Canada.

📋 Description

• Act as a key stakeholder in the performance of applications and databases. Evaluate pull requests with a focus on query expenses, indexing strategies, and data access patterns, driving enhancements throughout the codebase.

• Manage external API integrations and data exchanges. Develop and uphold dependable partner connectors that include authentication, rate limiting, and retry mechanisms. Create and refine both internal and partner-facing APIs.

• Architect and deliver backend features and services using Python and Django, ensuring predictable latency and high reliability.

• Troubleshoot production issues, facilitate debugging sessions, and enhance observability through logs, metrics, and tracing.

• Identify performance risks proactively, formulate strategies to mitigate them, and guide the team on best practices to avoid regressions.

• Ensure robust automated test coverage and maintain clear documentation that facilitate safe modifications and quick delivery.

• Guide engineers through collaboration, design reviews, and constructive feedback to elevate team standards.

• Participate in architectural discussions and problem-solving to ensure scalable and effective product decisions.

⛳️ Requirements

• Over 6 years of professional experience with a solid track record in software development, testing, design, and architecture.

• Advanced SQL skills that go beyond basic ORM usage. Proficient in reading database queries, designing indexes, optimizing complex joins, and refactoring queries for speed and reliability.

• Strong background in Python and Django with experience in building production services and APIs.

• Proven experience as a gatekeeper of database performance during code reviews and debugging sessions.

• Familiarity with MySQL and/or Postgres.

• Demonstrated ability to troubleshoot and debug production code utilizing logs, metrics, and traces.

• Experience in tackling performance and optimization challenges with a proven capability to both diagnose and prevent issues.

• Knowledge of cloud platforms such as Azure, AWS, or GCP.

• A history of effective mentoring and knowledge transfer.

• Experience with B2B API integrations.

• Bonus: Familiarity with Celery, RabbitMQ, and OTEL. A degree in Computer Science or a related field is advantageous.
