This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in California, +3 more states.
• Develop data and models while employing advanced optimization techniques for capacity expansion, production costs, and integrated resource planning.
• Execute client deliverables through modeling, presentations, writing, report and paper subsections, and additional client requests.
• Design and spearhead co-optimization efforts across generation, transmission, distribution, demand-side resources, and fuels amidst uncertainty.
• Create and implement techno-economic frameworks to assess system reliability, flexibility, and cost-effectiveness.
• Investigate electricity markets, power system reliability, optimization methods, market design, policy ramifications, and emerging technologies.
• Suggest innovative ideas and concepts for next-generation power systems.
• Convert quantitative simulation and research findings into clear visual formats and actionable insights.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams catering to utilities, ISOs, and large energy consumers.
• Assist in writing proposals and crafting innovative client-solution strategies.
• Act as a technical point of contact for clients, lead detailed discussions, present analytical results, and contribute to external thought leadership.
• Support client satisfaction and retention in collaboration with project and account leads.
• Master’s degree in operations research, Electrical Engineering, Applied Mathematics, Computer Science, Applied/Quantitative Economics, or a related field, along with 3+ years of experience in the energy sector.
• An equivalent combination of education and directly relevant professional experience in place of an advanced degree, evidenced by 6+ years of experience in the energy field.
• Proficiency in optimization theory, techno-economic analysis, and power system planning.
• Practical experience with capacity expansion and production cost tools such as PLEXOS, IPM, Encompass, or GenX.
• Strong programming and modeling capabilities in Python, Julia, and GAMS.
• Familiarity with commercial solvers including CPLEX, Gurobi, and Xpress-MP.
• Competence in managing large datasets and conducting stochastic or scenario-based analyses.
• Detail-oriented approach to model design and critical evaluation of outcomes.
• Outstanding communication skills for presenting technical results to varied audiences.
• Understanding of security-constrained economic dispatch and the fundamentals of power systems.
• Knowledge of econometrics, market economics, and regulatory frameworks.
• Experience in academic writing, stakeholder engagement, or policy analysis.
• Background in energy transition, co-optimization challenges, or advanced academic project work.
• High proficiency in Microsoft Excel and PowerPoint.
• Proven ability to leverage AI and introduce creative technological solutions in the workplace.
