This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States, +1 more state.
• Oversee and manage the complete range of HV/EHV AC power substation design projects.
• Direct a multidisciplinary technical project team along with contractors.
• Collaborate with vendors, professional clients, project managers, and engineering teams.
• Conduct comprehensive substation design tasks and specify/apply substation equipment.
• Act as the main technical authority for scheduling, compliance with standards, value engineering, design review organization, engineering hours budgeting, and quality assurance/control.
• Create and supervise power single-line diagrams and equipment specifications.
• Generate general drawings for substation arrangements, layouts, elevations, grounding, conduit/trench, cable routing, detailed drawings, and control-building layouts.
• Design high-voltage bus systems, structures, equipment, and wiring configurations.
• Prepare detailed bills of materials along with relevant studies/calculations.
• Serve as the primary contact for all technical issues.
• Guide and assist engineers and designers to achieve specifications, budget constraints, and timelines.
• Promote cross-discipline synergy for cohesive substation solutions.
• Review and contribute to deliverables throughout the inquiry-to-order process.
• Develop conceptual engineering and proposal documentation.
• Aid in sourcing, evaluating vendor quotations, and providing technical clarifications/assumptions.
• Lead the formulation of high-voltage equipment specifications and contractor work scopes.
• Facilitate vendor engagement and equipment selection.
• Oversee subcontracted design work scopes as required.
• Contribute to team productivity and billable utilization.
• Ensure engineering outputs align with customer critical-to-quality requirements and are completed on schedule and within budget.
• Assist with commissioning and interface efforts with customers and project stakeholders.
• Bachelor's Degree in Engineering from an accredited institution.
• At least 8 years of experience in industrial or utility HV/EHV substation design, or 6 years with a Master's degree in HV/EHV substation design.
• Willingness and ability to travel up to 20%, including internationally.
• Over 10 years of experience is preferred.
• Licensed Professional Engineer (P.E.) in the U.S. in good standing, with the ability to obtain licensure in other states preferred.
• Familiarity with North American electric utility substation design standards.
• Expertise in transmission and distribution substation engineering.
• In-depth knowledge of primary outdoor substation design, calculations, and electrical protection.
• Experience in industrial power system design at 12.5 kV and above.
• Proficiency in battery sizing, DC system design, and AC auxiliary power calculations.
• Skilled in power transformer and circuit breaker selection.
• Competence in conductor sizing and application.
• Knowledgeable in grounding, lightning protection, and insulation coordination.
• Understanding of IEEE, ANSI, NEC, and NESC standards.
• Experience in field testing and commissioning with a strong focus on safety.
• Strong electrical and mechanical troubleshooting capabilities.
• Excellent customer-facing communication skills and commercial awareness.
• Proficient in AutoCAD/MicroStation and design automation tools.
• Must have legal authorization to work in the United States for this position.
