This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.
• Act as the primary technical authority for HV and EHV substation EPC projects, responsible for integrated technical solutions and engineering outputs.
• Direct multidisciplinary teams covering substation physical, protection and control, relay settings, SCADA/communications, civil, structural, geotechnical, and other related disciplines.
• Define the technical methodology, design foundation, engineering execution approach, and interdisciplinary requirements.
• Oversee the design of substation physical and protection and control systems, guide technical choices, resolve design challenges, and ensure solutions are feasible for construction.
• Facilitate collaboration among engineering disciplines, equipment providers, construction teams, clients, and project management.
• Manage engineering processes from conceptual design through to IFC design, procurement, construction assistance, testing, commissioning, and energization.
• Act as the main technical contact for clients, conveying recommendations, risks, alternatives, and decisions.
• Conduct technical reviews and ensure quality assurance/quality control (QA/QC) across engineering packages.
• Mentor engineers and cultivate future technical leaders for projects.
• Implement industry standards, safety regulations, compliance requirements, and construction codes.
• Develop specifications for equipment, materials, construction, testing, and commissioning.
• Execute quality control reviews and lead meetings for engineering deliverables.
• Provide technical guidance, direction, and support to project teams.
• Maintain technical project documentation and coordinate with project managers.
• Engage directly with clients regarding project issues, meetings, and site visits.
• Assess existing facilities and suggest enhancements and replacements.
• Utilize value engineering principles for cost-effective, constructible, and safe designs.
• Complete conceptual one-line and general layout designs for project planning.
• Provide professional guidance and set a positive example for teams and junior personnel.
• Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering from an accredited institution.
• A minimum of eight (8) years of relevant experience in utility substation design/engineering.
• Professional Engineer (PE) License is required.
• Proven experience as a lead engineer, project engineer, technical lead, or engineering manager for HV/EHV substation projects.
• Capability to lead multidisciplinary engineering teams and coordinate interactions among substation disciplines.
• Strong expertise in substation physical and protection and control design, with significant knowledge in at least one area.
• Thorough understanding of utility power generation, transmission, distribution, and substation engineering principles.
• Familiarity with NEC, NESC, NEMA, IEEE/ANSI standards and their application.
• Proficient in researching engineering challenges, assessing alternatives, making recommendations, and presenting conclusions.
• Ability to meet deadlines in high-pressure environments.
• High level of computer proficiency, particularly with MS Office applications.
• Skillful in working effectively with diverse individuals and leading varied teams.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Strong organizational abilities.
• Willingness to travel locally/regionally up to 15% of the time.
• Preferred: Experience with HV/EHV projects; brownfield and greenfield substation expertise; EPC or Progressive Design Build contract experience; client liaison experience; QC review and staff training/mentorship experience; renewable generation or interconnection experience; familiarity with SKM, ASPEN, ETAP, CDEGS, or vendor software; engineering society membership; construction support experience.
