Senior Electrical Substation Design Project Engineering Manager 2 HV/EHV

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.

📋 Description

• Oversee and manage all technical elements of AC power substation projects

• Conduct comprehensive substation design activities encompassing the entire HV/EHV range

• Lead and coordinate the multi-disciplinary technical project team, including engineers, designers, contractors, and subcontracted personnel

• Act as the main technical authority for scheduling, adherence to standards and specifications, value engineering, design review planning, and quality assurance and control

• Create and supervise power single-line diagrams

• Develop and manage general substation arrangement drawings, which encompass layouts, elevations, grounding, conduit/trench, cable routing, detailed sketches, and control building layouts

• Create and manage high-voltage bus, structures, equipment, and detailed configurations

• Serve as the central point of contact for technical issues between clients, vendors, project managers, and engineering teams

• Facilitate cross-discipline collaboration to deliver cohesive substation solutions

• Review and contribute to conceptual engineering, proposal materials, BOMs, technical specifications, sourcing assistance, vendor quotation assessments, and technical clarifications and assumptions

• Lead the development of high-voltage equipment specifications and contractor work scopes

• Assist in vendor engagement and equipment selection processes

• Manage subcontracted design work scopes as necessary

• Support the manager in maintaining team productivity and billable utilization

• Ensure engineering outputs align with customer Critical to Quality standards and are delivered punctually and within budget

• Collaborate with the Project Manager regarding schedule and budget

• Assist in commissioning and act as a liaison between clients and project stakeholders

⛳️ Requirements

• Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering from an accredited institution, or a Master’s Degree in Electrical Engineering with over 10 years of pertinent experience

• At least 12 years of experience in industrial or utility High Voltage (+138kV) substation design, or 10+ years with a Master’s Degree in Electrical Engineering

• Willingness and ability to travel up to 20%, including internationally, while adhering to company travel and tax policies

• Licensed Professional Engineer (P.E.) in the U.S. in good standing, with the capability to obtain licensure in other states (preferred)

• Familiarity with EHV substation design standards

• Expertise in transmission and distribution substation engineering for utility and renewable energy initiatives

• Proficiency in primary outdoor substation design, calculations, and electrical protection

• Experience in industrial power system design at 12.5 kV and higher

• Proficient in battery sizing, DC system design, and AC auxiliary power calculations

• Skilled in power transformer and circuit breaker selection

• Knowledgeable in conductor sizing and application

• Expertise in grounding, lightning protection, and insulation coordination

• Understanding of IEEE, ANSI, NEC, and NESC standards

• Experience with field-testing and commissioning, emphasizing safety

• Strong electrical and mechanical troubleshooting abilities

• Excellent communication skills in customer-facing situations and commercial awareness, including change orders and project delivery

• Proficient in AutoCAD, MicroStation, and design automation tools

• Legally authorized to work in the United States

• Successful completion of a drug screening, as applicable
