This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Australia.
• Serve as the electrical Subject Matter Expert (SME) for grid, solar, Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS), and data center projects; responsible for producing and owning electrical designs across the portfolio.
• Execute detailed designs for substations, transformers, switchgear, protection systems, and power distribution.
• Create design packages from initial concept to detailed design, including single-line diagrams, equipment specifications, protection schemes, cable sizing, and earthing and bonding.
• Assist with grid connection activities as necessary (both export and demand), ensuring adherence to AEMO technical standards, DNSP requirements, and AS/NZS standards, while validating or creating supporting studies (fault level, load flow, protection coordination, harmonics).
• Offer electrical support throughout the project lifecycle from development to handover; ensure alignment of design intent with procurement and construction efforts, and address technical inquiries.
• Aid in and observe testing, energization, and commissioning processes (substations, protection systems, standby/UPS); troubleshoot challenges and ensure as-built documentation aligns with approved designs.
• Contribute to technical due diligence and lender advisory; provide engineering assurance for all electrical deliverables and act as an escalation point for complex issues.
• 5–10+ years of experience in electrical engineering within power, utilities, renewables, or critical infrastructure; significant preference for extensive high voltage (HV) experience in the Australian market.
• Demonstrated design expertise, capable of producing and owning electrical designs rather than merely reviewing the work of others.
• Strong track record in infrastructure delivery related to utility-scale solar, BESS, or grid-connected assets in Australia.
• Comprehensive understanding of electrical systems, substations, protection designs, and power distribution (both generation and demand).
• Familiarity with Australian grid standards, including AEMO technical requirements, DNSP connection standards, the National Electricity Rules, and AS/NZS electrical standards, with the ability to interpret electrical studies.
• Experience in commissioning, testing, and energization of HV infrastructure within the Australian context.
• Keen attention to detail when reviewing designs from consultants and subcontractors; strong understanding of Australian safety frameworks including the Electricity Safety Act, state-specific electrical licensing requirements, and relevant codes of practice.
• Competitive salary
• Biannual bonus scheme
• Fully expensed technology to meet your needs
• Paid annual leave
