This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Illinois, +2 more states.
• Formulate relay settings and protection strategies for distribution apparatus, which includes transformers, bus systems, breaker control, distribution feeders, and associated equipment.
• Evaluate protection and control design documentation.
• Offer remote field assistance to relay testing engineers during the implementation of settings.
• Simulate electrical systems using power simulation software such as CAPE, ASPEN, and CYME.
• Produce technical reports, correspondence, documentation, and analytical calculations.
• Aim for continuous enhancement of job-related engineering, technical, and professional competencies, skills, and performance.
• Guide and educate junior engineers in power engineering concepts and principles.
• Work collaboratively with team members and prioritize collective objectives.
• Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, ideally in electrical or computer engineering.
• Over 5 years of experience in developing relay settings and protection strategies for transmission, sub-transmission, or distribution equipment.
• More than 5 years of experience in electrical engineering theories and principles.
• Possession of a Professional Engineering license in at least one state.
• Familiarity with 69kV viper recloser applications.
• Knowledge of the IEC 61850 communication protocol.
• Proficient in Microsoft products, particularly Excel, Word, and/or Access.
• Capability to plan and oversee project assignments, effectively communicating obstacles to completing tasks within budget and schedule.
• Proficient in using software tools for modeling engineering challenges, programming automation systems, and conducting spreadsheet-based analyses and automation.
• Experience in developing settings for Schweitzer relays.
• Ability to work independently and remotely without supervision.
