Senior Electrical Design Engineer

Posted 1 hour ago

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.

📋 Description

• In this role, you will act as the senior technical authority for electrical design on intricate, large-scale data center and mission-critical infrastructure projects, guiding initiatives from initial concept through to commissioning and final turnover.

• You will lead and manage a team of electrical engineers and designers, setting uniform design standards, reviewing project deliverables, and cultivating a culture of continuous improvement and technical excellence.

• Acting as the primary point of contact, you will facilitate communication between internal departments, engineers of record (EoR), external consultants, and contractors to address complex electrical design challenges and implement timely, code-compliant solutions.

• You will supervise the creation, review, and quality assurance of all electrical documentation, including one-line diagrams, load calculations, panel schedules, arc flash studies, short circuit analyses, submittals, and RFIs.

• You will spearhead the assessment and incorporation of emerging technologies to improve the efficiency, reliability, and scalability of electrical infrastructure within data center environments.

• Your responsibilities will include proactive schedule and budget management by identifying design bottlenecks, assessing cost impacts of design modifications, and ensuring accountability among EoR and contractor teams.

• You will guarantee that all electrical systems are fully compliant with relevant codes and standards such as NEC, IEEE, and IEC, while mitigating technical and project risks throughout the design lifecycle.

• You will lead risk assessments, factory acceptance testing (FAT), site acceptance testing (SAT), and commissioning activities, which include milestone inspections and system integration verification.

• Close collaboration with mechanical, controls, and architectural disciplines will be essential to ensure the seamless integration of electrical systems into the overall project design framework.

• You will create and maintain lessons-learned documentation, contributing to ongoing enhancements in design processes, standards, and project delivery methodologies.

• Field support during construction will be part of your duties, including conducting walkthroughs, resolving installation challenges, and ensuring a successful transition to operations.

• You will assist in the development and ongoing refinement of internal design standards, templates, and best practices across the electrical discipline.

⛳️ Requirements

• A Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or Power Engineering with a focus on electrical building systems is required.

• At least 10 years of experience in the A/E industry, with a strong emphasis on mission-critical and data center electrical infrastructure.

• Revit BIM design experience is essential; a proven ability to coordinate large-scale electrical systems within a BIM environment is required.

• Extensive expertise in power distribution and lighting design, including medium voltage switchgear, transformers, UPS systems, generators, and related controls.

• Proven skills in short circuit analysis and power system modeling using tools such as SKM, ETAP, or similar applications.

• A solid background in the design, construction, testing, and commissioning of medium and low voltage electrical distribution systems, including power management and SCADA systems.

• A Professional Engineering (PE) license is mandatory.

• Demonstrated experience with redundancy strategies (N, N+1, 2N) and fault-tolerant design principles for high-uptime data center scenarios.

• A strong understanding of substation design, switchgear, power monitoring, and the associated commissioning processes.

• A comprehensive understanding of professional services from conceptual design through project close-out is essential.

• Familiarity with sustainable design practices, including energy efficiency strategies and their application in large-scale infrastructures.

• Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, with the capacity to convey complex technical information to diverse audiences, including senior leadership and external stakeholders.

• A commitment to improving workflows and promoting continuous improvement within the electrical discipline.

• Proficient in Microsoft Productivity Suite applications.
