This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in California.
• Receive and manage incoming donor referrals from hospitals, hospices, and medical examiner/coroner offices.
• Record referral information in iTransplant (iTX).
• Perform initial and thorough medical evaluations of potential donors in accordance with FDA, AATB, DNWest, and processing-partner protocols.
• Facilitate coordination of donation cases among Donor Operations, recovery teams, logistics, hospitals, medical examiners/coroners, funeral directors, and processing partners.
• Identify and address any missing or incomplete documentation.
• Ensure donor eligibility, prompt recovery, and optimal tissue yield while adhering to regulatory, medical, and ethical standards.
• Conduct Donation Discussions with legally authorized individuals and obtain tissue-donation consent.
• Execute medical and social history interviews, offering support to grieving families.
• Act as a subject matter expert in Donation Discussions and provide training, coaching, mentoring, and assessment for Donation Coordinators.
• Offer immediate support and serve as the primary escalation point for Donation Coordinators.
• Assign daily responsibilities, conduct Pre-Approach Reviews, engage in team huddles, manage the Organ Board, and assist in floor management.
• Organize recovery sites and donor transportation while respecting donor dignity.
• Detect process errors, deliver corrective training, and keep management updated on discrepancies.
• Complete necessary documentation, make chart corrections, attend trainings, participate in meetings, and pursue professional development.
• At least 5 years of experience in approaching grieving families and securing tissue authorizations at DNWest or an AATB accredited OPO/Tissue Bank.
• Consistent average of 375 authorized cases annually.
• High school diploma or equivalent is mandatory.
• In-depth understanding of disease processes and associated conditions.
• Proven excellence in all core responsibilities of Donation Coordinator I, II, and III roles.
• Capability to learn and implement adult learning theory, curriculum, and assessment design.
• Proficiency in utilizing various computer programs, electronic medical records, telephonic management systems, Microsoft Office, and office equipment while sitting for extended periods.
• Strong skills in organization, time management, prioritization, critical thinking, problem-solving, and strategic planning.
• Exceptional communication skills when interacting with grieving families, hospitals, funeral homes, medical examiners/coroners, and processing partners.
• Compassionate and professional demeanor.
• Keen attention to detail with the ability to accurately analyze and document medical information.
• Bachelor's degree in biological sciences or a comparable allied-health credential is preferred.
• CTP, CPTC, or CTBS certification is an advantage.
