Senior Director, Scientific Data Operations, Dissemination

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in New York.

📋 Description

• Supervise JED’s infrastructure for data collection related to research and evaluation, ensuring that programmatic and survey tools are accurately and consistently utilized across schools, communities, and other partners.

• Create procedures and recommendations for data collection that are in line with privacy and security regulations, including compliance with Institutional Review Board (IRB) standards.

• Guarantee that JED’s efforts in data collection, management, and analysis adhere to the approved protocols and security measures set forth by JED’s IRB.

• Provide guidance on developing scalable tools for research and evaluation data collection that align with JED’s evaluation goals while enhancing data collection over time.

• Assist and advise on ensuring the deployment of JED’s research and evaluation data collection tools meets high standards of quality and accuracy.

• Suggest regular updates to JED’s data collection instruments to enhance data quality and usability.

• Work in partnership with the Digital Products and Technology teams to utilize JED’s integrated data warehouse to bolster research and evaluation data processes.

• Establish and implement thorough data management practices, including documentation, survey and item cross-walks, codebooks, and analytical guidance.

• Maintain the accuracy and consistency of all collected programmatic and research data by conducting routine data quality checks and proposing improvement strategies.

• Manage and execute standard analytic coding decisions to ensure data reliability, consistency, and expediency in alignment with existing research.

• Collaborate with colleagues to pinpoint opportunities for reducing program data redundancy across systems, aiming to streamline data for improved quality.

• Partner with colleagues to create and implement quality assurance protocols that uphold high standards in program delivery and impact, identifying opportunities to leverage data for enhancing program fidelity and implementation.

• Oversee the analysis of various research and evaluation-related data sources (including JED’s surveys, programmatic data, external partner data, and publicly available data) that support JED’s scientific priorities and impact goals.

• Advise on suitable statistical methods that align with research or evaluation inquiries to promote scientific progression and data dissemination.

• Generate and present comprehensive reports or presentations on data findings to both internal and external stakeholders.

• Ensure effective utilization of data for publications, reports, data briefs, presentations, grant applications, and donor reports.

• Lead and collaborate on research and evaluation studies, including publications and data briefs, aligned with JED’s scientific questions and priorities.

• Guide the design and execution of research and evaluation-related data dashboards and reports to facilitate implementation and enhancement of JED’s programs, as well as to monitor trends in youth mental health and suicide prevention.

• Mentor and lead a team of scientists and analysts.

• Cultivate a culture centered around data-driven decision-making and continuous improvement.

• Provide training and support to staff on best practices and tools for data collection, management, analysis, and dissemination, including how to utilize data for practice enhancement.

• Ensure adherence to all relevant data protection regulations and ethical standards.

• Develop and enforce policies that uphold the confidentiality and integrity of sensitive information.

• Stay informed about best practices in data collection, relevant analytical methods, and emerging trends in data management.

⛳️ Requirements

• Doctoral or Master’s Degree in quantitative behavioral sciences, statistics, public health, or a related field with significant training in quantitative research methods and management.

• Over 7 years of experience leading research projects, including data collection, management, and analysis, specifically in youth suicide prevention or related areas like mental health, substance use, injury and violence prevention, or behavioral health promotion.

• Demonstrated experience in a leadership capacity, including staff mentorship and supervision or in managing a diverse, interdisciplinary team of data specialists and scientists.

• Strong background in overseeing research data collection and management, with a proven record of using and comprehending a variety of research or evaluation methodologies.

• In-depth understanding of data protection regulations and ethical standards, including ensuring compliance with Institutional Review Board data collection protocols.

• Excellent quantitative research and data management capabilities, including experience in developing data documentation, implementing data quality processes, and proficiency in statistical analysis software (e.g., R, SAS, SPSS, Python) across various analytical methodologies.

• Familiarity with data collection and management tools, preferably Qualtrics.

• Understanding of data visualization best practices, including translating data for diverse audiences via dashboards or reports. Basic experience with data visualization software such as PowerBI or Looker is preferred but not mandatory.

• Experience or interest in leveraging enterprise data warehouse systems, such as Snowflake, for managing research and evaluation data.

• Experience publishing research or evaluation results in peer-reviewed journals.

• Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving abilities.

• Exceptional interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills, capable of presenting complex data in a clear and concise manner.

• Ability to collaborate effectively with program staff, funders, partners, and other stakeholders.
