Senior Director – Power Marketing, Origination

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in California.

📋 Description

• Oversee power marketing and origination efforts for utility-scale solar and storage projects throughout the East region, including PJM, NYISO, MISO, SERC, SPP, and ERCOT.

• Formulate and implement commercialization strategies that encompass origination, structuring, negotiation, and execution of PPAs, VPPAs, capacity agreements, BTAs, and tolling transactions.

• Lead, mentor, and develop the East Region Power Marketing & Origination team.

• Supervise the preparation of bid packages in response to offtake opportunity requests, including RFPs and RFIs for utility-scale solar, storage, and hybrid projects in the East region.

• Discover new off-take opportunities through competitive solicitations, bilateral negotiations, regulatory filings, and more.

• Facilitate contract negotiation and execution by guiding cross-functional teams through intricate internal and external processes.

• Create innovative deal structures and recommendations to aid in financing negotiations, distinguish product offerings, and minimize collateral requirements.

• Establish and maintain strategic partnerships with utilities, municipalities, cooperatives, load-serving entities, and corporate off-takers.

• Analyze market fundamentals, customer demand trends, procurement activities, and regulatory changes to identify opportunities and shape commercial strategies.

• Assist in the development of commercial theses and presentations for Senior Management to inform greenfield development and acquisition strategies.

⛳️ Requirements

• Bachelor’s Degree or higher in business, marketing, engineering, sustainability, finance, or a related field.

• A minimum of 7 years of experience in power marketing, origination, or commercial strategy, with a level of responsibility that aligns with experience.

• Demonstrated success in originating, structuring, negotiating, and executing utility-scale energy transactions, including but not limited to PPAs, VPPAs, BTAs, APAs, tolling agreements, and other structured energy products.

• In-depth knowledge of U.S. utility-scale solar and battery storage development, power markets, and customer segments.

• Proven experience in leading and developing origination, power marketing, business development, or customer-facing teams.

• Background in cultivating and managing strategic relationships with utilities, electric cooperatives, municipal utilities, retail suppliers, and corporate buyers.

• Capacity to swiftly adapt to new tasks and situations in a dynamic environment.

• Experience in successfully operating within a geographically dispersed organization is an advantage.

• Exceptional interpersonal, time management, communication, and relationship-building skills.

• Willingness to travel up to 35% of the time within North America.
