• Identifies, assesses, develops, and secures new customers while also expanding business with existing clients.
• Recognizes and supports the advancement of biopharmaceutical business opportunities, which include new scientific and strategic partnerships, collaborations, licensing prospects, joint ventures, and alliances.
• Establishes and executes suitable development strategies to align with business objectives.
• Engages with corporate contacts, facilitates communication, monitors milestones, and identifies opportunities to strengthen these relationships.
• Negotiates and successfully finalizes contracts for KBI services with biopharmaceutical clients within designated accounts/areas.
• Assists the Vice President of Business Development with assigned activities.
• Identifies potential new clients, qualifies sales leads, cultivates new client relationships, solicits RFPs, and manages the proposal process; oversees existing client relationships in accounts designated by the VP of BD.
• Participates in trade shows and scientific meetings as directed, including coordinating trade show preparation with KBI marketing, setting up and dismantling booths, meeting with clients/prospects at the booth, and conducting trade show follow-ups.
• Visits client locations to deliver presentations on KBI capabilities, explore opportunities, build personal relationships, follow up on proposals, and advance the sales process toward closure.
• Coordinates initial client site visits and technical visits to KBI locations, which includes developing agendas, managing the meeting schedule through effective coordination with KBI scientific and site visit teams to ensure a valuable experience for the client, complete with appropriate hospitality and follow-up.
• Manages the CDA and MSA review process with clients and KBI legal, KBI contracts team, and all relevant stakeholders.
• Facilitates client Quality Audits and Quality Agreements in collaboration with KBI Quality.
• Regularly maintains and updates the CRM with status on opportunities.
• Sustains high levels of engagement within the region through local events and meetings, promoting industry and competitive intelligence, and awareness of new business opportunities.
• Collaborates with management and other business development personnel to ensure initiatives and decisions are consistent and complementary.
• Able to respond productively to change and manage other essential tasks as assigned.
• Technical Bachelor’s degree (preferably in a science-related field).
• Minimum of 9 years of experience in business development within the life sciences sector.
• Proven track record of success in technical business development (preferred in contract services or capital equipment in the life sciences industry).
• Proficient in business development fundamentals, including prospecting suitable clients, establishing relationships with new prospects, scheduling face-to-face meetings, delivering presentations, uncovering opportunities, soliciting RFPs, delivering proposals, obtaining solid feedback on proposals, addressing client objections, and closing contracts.
• Experience managing complex life science projects that involve multiple internal and client personnel with extended lead times (3-6+ months).
• Skilled in dealing with corporate partners and proficient in negotiating and finalizing agreements.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills are essential.
• Familiarity with biopharmaceutical manufacturing and regulatory requirements, or the ability to quickly learn and grasp these processes and requirements.
• Willingness to travel up to 50% or more for client site visits, meetings at KBI locations, and attendance at trade shows and scientific meetings.
