This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in District of Columbia, +1 more state.
• Provides leadership, strategic guidance, and oversight of APA’s applied science and technology advocacy initiatives.
• Promotes legislative, regulatory, and funding strategies.
• Designs and directs advocacy campaigns that promote the practical application of psychological science.
• Shapes and propels policy positions regarding the effects of AI on the workforce.
• Leads initiatives to enhance workplace well-being.
• Advocates for disaster preparedness, response, and recovery efforts.
• Drafts and negotiates critical advocacy documents for various stakeholders.
• Cultivates relationships with members of Congress, officials in the executive branch, and coalition partners.
• Monitors and assesses federal legislation and regulations for their impact on the field of psychology.
• A minimum of 10 years of relevant experience in a significant role within government, Congress, or the private sector.
• A master's degree or another advanced degree is mandatory.
• A doctoral degree is highly preferred.
• Direct experience with legislative and regulatory processes is essential.
• Proven ability to manage sophisticated, multi-faceted advocacy campaigns.
• Expertise in lobbying and/or issue advocacy.
• Demonstrated knowledge in science and emerging technology policy, including governance of AI and its impacts.
• Familiarity with online safety issues.
• Knowledge of workplace mental health and well-being.
• Understanding of disaster preparedness, response, and resilience.
• Proficiency in neuroscience ethics and neurotechnology policy.
• Insight into future-of-work challenges.
• Experience in drafting and collaborating with employers and other stakeholders.
• Ability to produce materials targeted at employers and stakeholders.
• Skill in building lasting partnerships with industry, labor, and cross-sector coalitions.
