Senior Director - AI Engineering, Discovery and Co-Design

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.

📋 Description

• Develop and implement the strategy, roadmap, and vision for AI Engineering, Discovery & Co-Design capabilities throughout Dexcom's R&D organization.

• Oversee the creation of AI-driven platforms, engineering workflows, knowledge systems, and scientific reasoning capabilities.

• Create scalable co-design environments that integrate sensor, hardware, firmware, algorithm, antenna, mechanical, and systems engineering teams.

• Collaborate with Engineering, Research, Systems Engineering, Product Development, Data & Analytics, Manufacturing, Quality, Regulatory, IT, and Executive Leadership teams.

• Assess emerging technologies and guide decisions on whether to build, buy, or partner.

• Assemble, lead, and cultivate a high-performing team of AI engineers, research engineers, architects, scientists, and technical leaders.

• Develop strategic partnerships with universities, research institutions, and technology communities.

• Encourage experimentation, technical excellence, continuous learning, and responsible innovation while achieving measurable business results.

⛳️ Requirements

• Generally requires a Bachelor's degree in a technical field.

• 17+ years of experience in the industry.

• 13+ years of proven leadership experience in a relevant industry.

• Extensive knowledge in artificial intelligence, machine learning, advanced analytics, scientific computing, engineering platforms, or related technology sectors.

• Demonstrated success in building and scaling high-performing technical organizations and nurturing future leaders.

• Proven ability to translate emerging technologies into practical, enterprise-level capabilities with measurable business impact.

• Experience in evaluating technology investments and making strategic decisions regarding build, buy, or partner options.

• Proven track record of influencing executive stakeholders and driving organizational change.

• Exceptional communication and collaboration abilities.

• Experience in recruiting and retaining top talent from industry, startups, research institutions, and academic settings.

• Background in constructing AI-enabled environments that support engineering innovation, scientific discovery, simulation, optimization, knowledge management, or collaborative design workflows.

• Recognized as a hands-on technology leader with a commitment to innovation and the continuous enhancement of AI capabilities.

• Experience in establishing external partnerships, engaging in industry communities, and contributing to thought leadership.

• Willingness to travel 5-15% of the time.
