Senior Development Assurance Engineer

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.

📋 Description

• Evaluate current processes and tools against ARP4754B to pinpoint deficiencies and promote enhancements.

• Take ownership of the refinement, upkeep, and ongoing improvement of Development Assurance process documentation in accordance with SAE ARP4754B.

• Collaborate with Systems Engineering to create strong requirements sets from initial prototypes to complete production configurations.

• Establish a shared requirements database applicable across various software versions and aircraft deployments.

• Participate in cross-training for DO-178C and DO-254 development assurance compliance.

• Aid in standardizing and reinforcing Merlin's problem reporting system.

• Contribute to the development of the Part 25 certification process.

• Assist and participate in military airworthiness process enhancements aligned with MIL-HDBK-516.

• Develop plans for Development Assurance, audits, and process control for upcoming ARP4754B certification initiatives.

• Lead cross-functional teams in navigating complex development assurance solutions under demanding timelines.

• Incorporate Development Assurance processes into the institutional knowledge across Autonomy, Air Vehicle Integration, and Flight Test & Operations.

• Educate, instruct, and mentor engineering teams on development assurance standards, expectations, and workflows.

• Perform independent audits to ensure adherence to established Development Assurance processes.

• Work alongside Engineering to maintain up-to-date process specifications as programs, tools, and regulatory guidelines develop.

• Report to the process assurance organization under the VP of Airworthiness & Certification.

⛳️ Requirements

• 6–9 years of experience in Development Assurance with a Bachelor's degree, 4–6 years with a Master's degree, or 2–3 years with a PhD in Engineering, Quality Assurance, or a related discipline.

• Over 7 years of experience applying development assurance practices for complex integrated avionics systems, focusing on new and innovative technologies in Part 25 aircraft type certification or supplemental type certifications.

• Direct, hands-on experience in developing, implementing, or auditing engineering processes under SAE ARP4754A/B and SAE ARP4761/A.

• Experience collaborating with Systems Engineering to develop and refine requirements sets from prototypes through to full production configurations.

• Strong skills in auditing, technical writing, and communication, including experience training or mentoring engineers on process and compliance topics.

• Experience working with regulatory agencies (FAA or equivalent) on Part 23, 25, or 29 certification projects, including Part 25 Type Inspection Authorization (TIA) experience.

• Proven ability to lead cross-functional teams through intricate development assurance solutions within tight schedules.

• Demonstrated independence in decision-making and expertise in applying appropriate rigor to various projects.

• Candidates must be authorized to work in the United States without the need for visa sponsorship now or in the future.

• Successful completion of background and reference checks is required.

• Nice-to-have: Development Assurance experience in avionics or autonomous flight systems.

• Nice-to-have: Experience in Software Quality Assurance.

• Nice-to-have: Comprehensive Supplemental or Amended Type Certificate (STC/ATC) experience.

• Nice-to-have: Experience in establishing or scaling development assurance processes from the ground up in a growing company.

• Nice-to-have: Familiarity with DO-178C / DO-254 or capability to cross-train in software/hardware development assurance compliance.

• Nice-to-have: Experience with Jama or DOORS across multiple software baselines or product configurations.
