Senior Design Engineer, Embedded Agreements

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Portugal.

📋 Description

• Take full responsibility for the design of our API and integration areas, overseeing everything from developer-focused API surfaces and documentation experiences to the in-product flows that users depend on to connect their tools;

• Collaborate with product and research teams to influence the strategy for these surfaces, staying attuned to market and audience changes as the barriers to working with APIs and MCP decrease, and translating this understanding into designs for a diverse and evolving user base;

• Design and prototype AI-native patterns for our API, which includes our ChatGPT app, Claude connector, and MCP integration, representing the intersection of PandaDoc with AI assistants and agentic workflows;

• Define the user experience for integrations throughout the product, focusing on two key questions: how our primary CRM integrations (Salesforce, HubSpot) should adapt for an agentic environment, and how we can balance the integrations we create with those that customers develop independently in platforms like Claude via MCP — determining when each approach is appropriate, when a hybrid solution is suitable, and how to craft an experience that deliberately guides customers to their best options;

• Rapidly prototype ideas in code, transforming concepts from Figma or LLM discussions into production-ready React components within days, while managing layout, interaction, accessibility, and performance;

• Pave the way for the Design Engineer role at PandaDoc, overseeing projects from initial problem definition to launch, and helping shape the function as the inaugural hire in this capacity;

• As the sole Design Engineer on the Embedded Agreements team, contribute your technical insights to the design process, sharing patterns, collaborating on prototypes, and assisting fellow designers in enhancing their technical expertise over time;

• Work with an AI-first mindset in Cursor and Claude Code, bringing strong opinions on how to achieve high-quality output from these tools;

• Extensive experience in both design and front-end engineering, with a portfolio showcasing shipped interfaces or widely-used components;

• Proficiency in React, TypeScript, modern CSS, and a comfort level with working closely with API surfaces and developer tools;

• A genuine passion for developer experience — you comprehend what distinguishes a well-designed API from a merely functional one — and an eagerness to explore how this experience is expanding beyond traditional developers as MCP and AI assistants reduce entry barriers;

• Active and informed use of Cursor and Claude Code in your daily workflow, possessing a clear perspective on achieving production-quality output;

• Comfort in building from the ground up, demonstrating the ability to set a course when no template exists, and the instinct to collaborate with product teams on market trends;
