Senior Database Engineer – PostgreSQL, MS SQL Server

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Portugal.

📋 Description

• Designing and implementing the migration of a large Microsoft SQL Server environment to a PostgreSQL architecture.

• Playing a key role in transforming a legacy monolithic database into a distributed PostgreSQL platform.

• Overseeing the database migration strategy, schema redesign, performance enhancement, and architectural improvements.

• Collaborating effectively with software engineers, architects, and technical stakeholders.

• Investigating and incorporating AI-assisted engineering tools into daily operations to boost productivity.

⛳️ Requirements

• Demonstrated experience as a Senior Database Engineer, Database Migration Engineer, or in a related position.

• Strong proficiency with PostgreSQL and/or Microsoft SQL Server.

• Extensive experience in planning and executing database migration projects from MS SQL Server to PostgreSQL.

• Advanced proficiency in SQL, T-SQL, and PL/SQL.

• Experience in designing, optimizing, and refactoring complex database schemas and queries.

• Deep understanding of database internals, indexing strategies, query optimization, partitioning, replication, and performance tuning.

• Experience with distributed database architectures and scalable read/write environments.

• Familiarity with software engineering best practices, database architecture, and data modeling principles.

• Experience working in Agile development environments.

• Hands-on experience with AI-assisted development tools.
