Senior Database Engineer

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.

📋 Description

• Act as a trusted advisor to clients by proactively identifying risks related to performance, availability, and security.

• Provide guidance to clients on cloud database architecture, migration strategies, and cost optimization within AWS and Azure environments.

• Lead initiatives in architecture design, disaster recovery planning, and capacity forecasting.

• Manage the entire database service lifecycle, encompassing backups, high availability/disaster recovery (HA/DR), performance tuning, and roadmap planning for the platform.

• Establish and monitor database availability and performance service level objectives (SLOs).

• Implement automated solutions for recurring failure patterns.

• Conduct root-cause analyses and post-incident reviews.

• Design scalable database architectures, partitioning strategies, and audit specifications.

• Create and maintain deployment and rollback scripts.

• Oversee version updates across different environments.

• Develop automation in Python and PowerShell for backup validation, monitoring, alerting, and reporting integrations.

• Migrate and provide support for SSIS packages and SSAS cubes.

• Create stored procedures for reporting purposes.

• Work in collaboration with client technical teams and executive stakeholders to translate technical findings into actionable business recommendations.

⛳️ Requirements

• Extensive experience as a Senior-level SQL Server specialist or Senior SQL Server DBA.

• Proficient in advanced T-SQL query optimization, including working with execution plans, parameter sniffing, statistics/cardinality issues, and tuning within Query Store.

• Skilled in rewriting and refactoring stored procedures and T-SQL code to enhance performance.

• Solid understanding of indexing strategies, including clustered, non-clustered, covering, and columnstore indexes.

• Experience in diagnosing performance issues through root-cause analysis utilizing wait statistics, CPU, memory, I/O, tempdb, blocking, and deadlock analysis.

• Practical experience with optimizing Azure SQL Database, Azure SQL Managed Instance, and AWS RDS for SQL Server.

• Familiarity with cloud database architecture, migration, and cost optimization in both Azure and AWS across IaaS and PaaS solutions.

• Expertise in architecture design, disaster recovery planning, and capacity forecasting.

• Knowledge of database backup strategies and HA/DR configurations.

• Ability to define and track SLOs for database availability and performance.

• Experience in designing scalable database structures, partitioning strategies, and audit specifications.

• Proficient in scripting for deployment and rollback and coordinating version updates across environments.

• Competence in automating processes using Python and PowerShell.

• Familiarity with Power BI reporting integrations.

• Experience in migrating and supporting SSIS packages and SSAS cubes.

• Proficient in developing stored procedures for reporting tasks.

• Strong ability to collaborate with client technical teams and executive stakeholders.

• Willingness to travel up to 20% domestically within the US for on-site client visits.
