This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.
• Takes ownership of the comprehensive health, reliability, and performance of database environments through proactive monitoring, maintenance, and observability.
• Reviews database backups, maintenance tasks, and health reports to ensure that issues are identified and resolved within established SLAs.
• Addresses database alerts and escalations, acting as an L3 escalation point while driving root-cause analysis and implementing long-term corrective measures.
• Leads initiatives for database performance tuning, including query optimization, index strategies, and configuration enhancements tailored to specific workloads.
• Collaborates with Database Engineering to evaluate database performance trends and pinpoint systemic risks or opportunities for improvement.
• Works alongside Cloud Engineering and Application Development teams to facilitate scalable deployments and optimize performance.
• Establishes and enforces database security standards in collaboration with engineering and security stakeholders.
• Deploys and manages database objects (such as tables, indexes, views, stored procedures, and packages) across various environments.
• Participates in a 24/7 on-call rotation and provides L1–L3 support as necessary.
• Engages in the planning and execution of initiatives aimed at enhancing database resiliency, availability, and operational transparency.
• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Business Administration, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
• Over 6 years of experience supporting SQL Server databases in a production setting.
• Strong proficiency in database monitoring, performance tuning, and troubleshooting.
• Experience with high-availability and disaster recovery configurations.
• Skilled in analyzing database logs, execution plans, and performance metrics.
• Experience in deploying and managing database objects across multiple environments.
• Willingness to engage in a 24/7 on-call rotation.
• Excellent root-cause analysis, communication, and collaboration abilities.
• Preferred: Experience supporting databases within AWS environments (RDS, Aurora, CloudWatch monitoring).
• Experience with very large databases (VLDB > 1TB).
• Familiarity with automation and scripting (T-SQL, PowerShell, CLI).
• Exposure to NoSQL platforms.
• Relevant certifications (MCTS, MCITP, MySQL, AWS Database Specialty).
• Experience with third-party monitoring and performance tools (e.g., Idera, SolarWinds, Datadog, Splunk).
