This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.
• Take ownership of the overall health, reliability, and performance of database environments through proactive monitoring, maintenance, and observability.
• Examine database backups, maintenance activities, and health reports to pinpoint and address issues within established SLAs.
• Act as an L3 escalation point by responding to database alerts and escalations.
• Lead root-cause analysis efforts and implement long-term corrective measures.
• Spearhead database performance tuning initiatives, which include query optimization, index strategy, and workload-specific configuration improvements.
• Collaborate with Database Engineering to evaluate performance trends and identify systemic risks or opportunities for improvement.
• Work together with Cloud Engineering and Application Development teams to ensure scalable deployments and optimize performance.
• Establish and uphold database security standards in collaboration with engineering and security stakeholders.
• Deploy and manage tables, indexes, views, stored procedures, and packages across various environments.
• Participate in a 24/7 on-call rotation and provide L1–L3 support as needed.
• Contribute to initiatives aimed at enhancing database resiliency, availability, and operational transparency.
• A Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Business Administration, or a related discipline, or equivalent practical experience.
• Over 7 years of experience in supporting SQL Server and/or MySQL databases in production environments.
• Strong proficiency in database monitoring, performance tuning, and troubleshooting.
• Experience in supporting high-availability and disaster recovery configurations.
• Proficient in analyzing database logs, execution plans, and performance metrics.
• Experience in deploying and managing database objects across multiple environments.
• Willingness to be part of a 24/7 on-call rotation.
• Excellent root-cause analysis, communication, and collaboration skills.
• Preferred: experience supporting databases in AWS environments, including RDS, Aurora, and CloudWatch monitoring.
• Preferred: experience with very large databases (VLDB > 1TB).
• Preferred: familiarity with automation and scripting, including T-SQL, PowerShell, and CLI.
• Preferred: exposure to NoSQL platforms.
• Preferred: relevant certifications such as MCTS, MCITP, MySQL, or AWS Database Specialty.
• Preferred: experience with third-party monitoring and performance tools such as Idera, SolarWinds, Datadog, and Splunk.
• Requires prolonged sitting, standing, bending, stooping, and stretching.
• Requires the ability to lift 10 pounds.
• Requires eye-hand coordination, manual dexterity, and a normal range of hearing and vision, with or without correction.
