This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Arizona, +20 more states.
• Design and develop database architecture solutions that accommodate the growth of PDQ’s SaaS platform.
• Lead initiatives focused on database performance tuning, optimization, and troubleshooting.
• Investigate and resolve intricate production database performance and availability challenges, identify root causes, mitigate incidents, and drive long-term enhancements.
• Work collaboratively with software development teams to refine database queries and schema designs.
• Partner with DevOps teams to automate standard database administration tasks and maintenance processes.
• Enhance and maintain database observability tools to track performance and capacity, analyze historical data, identify trends, and proactively address issues.
• Implement and uphold database security protocols and access controls.
• Mentor and instruct engineering teams on crafting optimized and high-performance database queries.
• Over 6 years of experience managing databases at scale.
• Experience in a SaaS environment with critical high-availability requirements.
• Strong understanding of OLTP databases, particularly PostgreSQL, in high-volume settings.
• Familiarity with database replication, partitioning, sharding, and clustering.
• Expertise in SQL performance tuning, query optimization, and schema design.
• Experience with automation tools and scripting languages such as Bash, Python, or similar.
• Knowledge of backup and recovery tools and methodologies.
• Experience with cloud platforms, particularly GCP and Cloud SQL.
• Understanding of containerization and orchestration technologies, including Docker and Kubernetes.
• Proficiency with monitoring tools such as Prometheus, Grafana, and GCP SQL Query Insights.
• Experience troubleshooting PostgreSQL WAL and VACUUM behavior.
• Familiarity with OLAP columnar databases, including ClickHouse.
• Detail-oriented, organized, and a strong team player.
• Independent, highly motivated, and solution-oriented mindset.
• Excellent interpersonal skills, especially in building authentic business relationships.
• Must be eligible to work in the United States; most of PDQ’s full-time positions do not qualify for employment visa sponsorship.
